I have something that has worked for me. Long ago, I discovered that drinking water with baking soda helped balance the Ph levels in my bladder which was too acidic. I drank the baking soda especially if I was going to drink wine or coffee which are terrible for the acidic levels in your bladder. Sometimes, though, I would still feel pain in my urethra - just where I peed, and so I tried putting some baking soda there, thinking that if I was suffering from a Ph imbalance then the baking soda could help. It helped instantly! No pain at all. It's a simple solution that really helped me.

HI Katrinabean79,

Just wondering how you made out? Did you go to Johns Hopkins? I am very sick like all these poor ladies and the Doctor's have NO answers. I am going to try the Homeopathic route and see how that works. Thanks for your post.

Very interesting. Thank you for this post the joint pain is starting to make sense. I am making an appt right now with my doctor. What about clitoris pain? Noone has mentioned the clitoris and I think it might be overlooked by all of us? It is something I will be researching into more so.

About the joint pain, apparently about 30 % of IC sufferers also have a condition called Lupus. One of the symptoms are joint pain, and it's apparently very important to get tested for it since it's quite serious.

I started a new flare up, first in 2 years, this time with added vulvodynia symptoms. It got better afteadjusting my diet for 2 weeks, but I had to travel and now it's bad again. I don't know what to eat anymore, I'm so scared. The doc even found tiny blisters inside the vagina, prob from the inflammation. I'm on cortisone pills, Celebrex and urispas, and cysta Q. I just don't think I can do this again.

Well I just got home with a bag full of natural remedies such as Tea treee Oil for one and a slew of other products. I am going to try it. My doctors do not care so it is all up to me and the help and support from these posts. I am going to do my best to try a gluten free diet starting right away. Do a cleanse and use my new products. I'll try anything at this point. I can't work and all day everyday is pain, pain, pain! I'll keep ya posted if anything I try works.

Dear internet,

I am a guy who has had similar symptoms and been through many blood tests and urine tests.  It has come to the point now that the dr. tells me I have nothing wrong with me since they cannot find anything on their tests, are unable or unwilling to order new specialized or repeat some tests, say I am "cured" since I finished some course of antibiotics, or that I should see a therapist since they believe I have some psychosomatic cause of my illness instead of a true infection or organic cause.   Well I think that is a bunch of hooey and I have decided to go a non allopathic route.  I have become sick of the MDs.

I have seen an herbalist, nutrionalist, and dr. of oriental medicine, all who took my complaints more seriously than the MD's, well I was paying out of pocket also, but I digress.  They have started me on some herbs for my prostate and nutriton, dietary changes, and some other treatment, and I have been having a lot of improvement.  I still feel like I have an illness or some condition but I feel the natural treatments are helping at least control symptoms and I feel they are more benefit than any treatment I had from the MD.  Also they are addressing some other issues that I did not even realize that I had going on.

Everyone is different here.  I do not know if I have lupus but I have had some on and off joint pain and recently some occasional rashes popping up that I never had before.  For all I know I have some type of mycoplasm infection but none of the MD I know are willing to order the tests for it, and based upon the research I have read the allopathic MD protocol for mycopasm is months and months of antibiotics, which typically make me sick after only a few weeks.    I wish I had the answers but if you feel like your getting the run around from your care provider then seek out a different type of care provider is my best advice presently.

Hi Mandi
- So sorry to hear about your situation. Have you had a chance to try AZO Standard? It's an OTC natural medicine that is made specifically for urinary pain. I have been going through pelvic radiation due to endometrial cancer and it has helped me immensely. There are a couple of different ones that you can choose from but best of all, you can find it at CVS or Target. Good luck! Hope this helps.

3 years ago I was under a lot of stress and at uni and kept having pain in my abdomen which started runing my sex life as any position was un-comfortable, then I started bleeding during sex, I eventually got diagonosed with a UTI which cleared up but the abdomen pain persisted, then after having tests I found out that I had abnormal cells on a PAP scan, these then got removed but the abdomen pain persisted.

The doctors could find nothing wrong with me and the pain developed and developed effecting all my abdomen, my leg, my bum (hurt to sit down, driving brought me to tears) and I was consumed with exhaustion everyday tasks would leave me gasping for breath as if i had run a marathon and all my back to the point where the pain was so un-bearable - the doctors could still find nothing wrong, ive had scans internals, every blood test possible, every swob possible and the glands in my groin were swollen to the size of golf balls! - I was then taken to hospital as an emergancy and I was again diagnosed with a UTI infection. Within 10 mins of being on a drip I felt 2 millions times better. It was as if i had been in a numbing pain coma for all those months and i suddenly had woken up.

But although i got better the pain never fully went away - and it has seemed to travel down but eventually after a year and a half - it is now all underneath - have been diagonosed with Batharmis Cyst which popped and left scarring and now I get the occasional spasms, swollen bladder to the point that it feel like its cracking and going to burst (very painful!) all down my legs are sore and my uretha is sore all the time and throbs (but it has never hurt when i pee). I have seen so many specialists, and taken so many antibiotics I just had enough. The last thing the specialist said to me was "Be happy, relax and enjoy your life!" so ive taken things into my own hands...

This best thing ive found which i feel has taken me from sucidal pain to almost completly clearing it up - is Yoga and Body Balance - I do an hour every day and wierdly i get a really swetty groin but i feel that this boosts circulation and stretches out all my muscules down there which wierdly seems to help my body heal itself! - be warned the first week i did it i thought i was going to throw up every day and i felt ill and shaky and sore but as well quite rejuvinated. (honesty after 4 weeks I am a completly different person, before my life used to evolved around my pain, now i barely notice anything for weeks at a time and its getting better all the time, cant belived how far ive come and how c**p the doctors were.)

I am now also using epsom salts in the bath which i feel really helps and i am trying massage which is really really hurting at the moment and am feeling quite ill from it but I belive that this is all the toxins leaving your system... and i think ive got a lot in there!!!

Another wierd thing i found is Chakria Therapy - (def never have been a believer in wierd hippy stuff) but i took a test on it (its all about where u store your anixiety and your mental and pysical health asks questions like how would u deal with things in certain situations) and guess what all mine came out with was that my base Chakria (Red) was very unbalanced and this is all liked with urinary problems etc...

For 17 years, I suffered with urethral pain every time I urinated.  Every doctor I saw told me there is nothing wrong and the last urologist I saw told me the pain was in my head.  by this time I had already has several CT scans, an IVP, X-rays, rectal exams and scopings not to mention all the bladder scopings.  I finally insisted on an MRI and there it was....a urethral diverticulum the size of a plum.  I took the MRI disk to Vanderbilt's urology clinic and they removed and repaired the urethra and I have been pain free for the past 7 years.  I wonder how many of you have the same problem.  If you haven't had an MRI, insist on one.  It may just find the cause of your pain.

I had debilitating pain in my urethra (after a UTI) for eight months and all tests were negative. I was hardly able to function and tried everything.  I noticed my pain was slightly reduced by sitting in a bucket filled with hot water and lots of BETADINE liquid (it is a cheap, OTC antiseptic).

So I bought BETADINE ointment and started to apply it externally on my urethra. The first application was a bit painful.  It helped tremendously. For the first time in 8 months, I was without pain.  Do not apply it for too many days in a row (have a gap in between) because iodine itself can be irritating to the mucous membranes with too frequent applications.

I do not know why this antiseptic helps because all my tests for bacteria and STD were negative and antibiotics were not helping me the slightest) but iodine also has some anti-inflammatory properties and that may be the reason. In any case, it is very cheap and worth trying.

Try buscopan, I read it in this thread and started taking it every 6 hours. After two weeks I felt SO MUCH BETTER. The pain is not gone completely. My MD has told me after the UTI I had, I have a little nodule or something and that is why I have the pain... the only MD that took a look! All other them just gave me tests and told me I was fine.

Have your doctors looked at you urethra? after visiting .... maaany finally one did. She said I have a little thingy that is blocking my urethra, I dont know the word of it in English. She said I should not worry, that there was treatment for that... only I cannot get it for now because Im pregnant! But I will wait and get back to her!

I also noticed that when I take a VERY hot shower I have the same pain after urinating!! So now, after taking my shower I wash myself with cold water and dont have the pain anymore...lm wondering if the pain and spasms happen because urine is warm...
