Hello. Lately I started having problems with my periods. Vaginal bleeding was very heavy and prolonged, with clots and last time I had cramps as well. Beside this, my sexual intercourses started to be painful and I have often urge for piing. At the beginning I wasn’t worried cos I thought that pain with periods is a common thing, so I just used some pain killers but now when I started having these other symptoms I started asking myself what could this be!!!

Hi there! Your symptoms look very like mine when I had uterine fibroids. This is a tumor of the uterus which is the most common tumors in pelvic area. They are benign and they grow in the muscular uterine wall. Besides the symptoms you mentioned there could be enlargement of the stomach area, constipation, pelvic, back, or leg pain. But another things that have similar symptoms are endometriosis or adenomyosis. They are conditions which cause abnormal growth or deposits of uterine tissue or ovarian masses. That is why you need urgently to go the to doctor’s and have yourself examined. I wish you all the best!

Hi, I have something like the same thing goin on with me. I have blood clots that come outta my vigina, and attached to it is like yellowish/whitish/clear stuff. But the blood clots come all the time, it doesn't even have to just be around the time of my period. I'm kinda scared because I've read that some blood clots are cancerous. I don't know what to do, I'm scared.. yet I don't want to go to the doctor because like many others I hate discussing that with my doctor. Any one that may have any information, please help me. Thanks!

Hey Girls
I just wanted to post a reply having been through some of the things that you are mentioning. It is usually normally to have some kind of clots when you have your periods. By now though you should have had your periods for a while and know what you cycle is and more importantly what's normal for you. I started having extended periods over four months and then one month I had a massive bleed and ended up in A & E. Instead of examining me properly they decided that it must be a hormonal problem and put me on the pill. Two months later after passing clots the size of golf balls that did look stringy I ended up in front of my gyne in agony. It turns out that the top of my cervix was blocked and so was stopping any of my menstrual blood from leaving my body. I was bleeding into my pelvic cavity and in a lot of pain. The blood had been in me so long it had congealed and seperated casing water to come out of me. It turns out that there was no reason for the blockage and my Gyne has never seen anything like it. The big bleed I had was probably the blockage trying to clear itself out.
The point is for the two months I was on Birth Control Pills I was constantly being told that this was breakthrough bleeding and that I shouldn't worry. You girls know what is normal for your body and I can't tell you how important it is to get things checked our as soon as they appear. I was unlucky that this was missed twice but please don't be embarrassed and go and look after your body. At the end of the day it is the only thing in this life that you truly own. I hope that you all find out what are causing your problems and remember to come back to the sites you visited and post up your results so others can learn.
Look after yourselves.

I'm not even on the pill.. and I've been having this happen to me. From reading what was just posted, I think, you were saying that you were on the pill and it was causing this to happen to you. But I'm not, nor have I been on the pill. I don't know whats causing it.. or why. But I do think it's time to go to the doctor. Thanks for your information!

I have a long history of heavy lengthy periods. I have taken birth control in the past to help regulate my perods but I haven't taken any in over a yr. Even on the pill periods were still heavy and longer than the avg. Lasting more than a week. Lately I have been having serious clotting which I've never had before. I saw my OB/gyn last week and had a vaginal ultrasound. I was told that everything looked normal w/ the exception of my rt ovary which was much larger than the left. I was told that this was because I still had bleeding. I have only been taken the pill this time for 6 days. My OB/gyn gave me a diagnosis of dysfunctional uterine bleeding, menorrhgia, and metrorrghia. The problem is there doesn't appear to be any signs of stopping for the bleeding, clots, and cramps.I have now had these symptoms for 3weeks. I',m anemic(taking birth control w/ iron) I'm at a lost now and I'm getting very frustrated. Where is all of this coming from, what is causing all of this, and what can I do?

Well I've had this clotting problem for a long long time(I'm 48yr. now!), so I don't think it's anything to worry about.
I did though at one point have a cyst on my ovary which my Doctor said could cause abnormal bleeding. If you do have clots try advil which has helped me to lessen them a lot.
It is best though to get checked out by your Doctor just to see if there are no other serious causes! I think that my bleeding was due to it coming out slower and thus coagulating on it's way out.
If this is the same reason for you then try something to keep it thinned out like aspirin or advil. I have found that if I have cramps too when I take an advil it greatly lessens them and the clots too.
I think that it is probably due to the transit time of the blood leaving your body....remember any type of blood does coagulate. And if you are having cramps it's your body's way of trying to expel the blood which may be slower than usual. First consult the Doctor to get a clean bill of health and then if there is nothing wrong then experiment with advil and see if it will not only just help me but you too! Sincerely, Kate

I would just like to say women are great and it is nice to find a sight that can answer questions and give a women secureness. I found this sight trying to get answers on my wifes symtpoms because she also has been to her ob/gyn and had test and medications and nothing seems to help, but now i no shes not alone in not knowing what her problem is. I am real concerned. She went through 3 months of bleeding (straight) before the doctor found the right medication to stop it now she is back to "normal" 7 days, heavy bleeding, real bad cramps and blood clots. And yes we've even gotten other opinions but no real answers. just feel like there prolonging the process collecting our money because they really don't know what the problem is.

hi there,
I was wondering if anyone out there might be able to help me understand whats going on.......
Let me start at the beginning. I have hypothyroidism. i think this may be part of the problem. anyways about 8 months ago my period stopped. being the "kid" that i am (im 19) i thought i could i might be able to ignore the problem in hopes that it might go away. Well it didnt. in august i my period came back. though now i think im wrong and it might be something more serious. Latley the bleeding has got more heavier and i seem to be having alot of clotting..... the problem is that i am 9 hours away from home and i dont have a doctor here. i would rather not have to go to a clinic and talk to a stranger. any ideas? i hope someone can give me some advice!
thanks

*I don't know how helpful what I have to say will be to any of you. I am not a doctor and what I'm about to write is not to be misconstrued as a doctors advice or to replace a doctors advice!
*I'm 48 and I too have had clots on and off for a number of years, painful periods, and extended bleeding (One time was for 42 days!). I have undergone many test. I've also had to research a lot of things for myself because the medical profession (is what they say, a "practicing profession") often times can't figure out what was going on for one reason or another. I noticed that most of you didn't put an age in your postings. Age can and does have a bearing on what doctors may think your problem is and what they'll test for. You should also think about if there are any other symptoms that you may have about or during the same time as the ones you mentioned.
*I suggest that you have your thyroid hormones (TSH, T3, nad T4)and female homone levels tested. Look on the internet or in your local phone book for a naturalpathic or holistic doctor for saliva testing. It's the most accurate.
*The endocrine system controls how the whole body works. If any one of the hormones are out of wack, it causes others to be also.
*Clots can be indicative of cancer, but not usually. A lot of the time they are caused by fibroid cyst (fairly common, and usually painful). Fibroid cyst can make it difficult and sometimes impossible to get pregnant, but once you have gotten pregnant, the next time shouldn't be as difficult.
Painful intercourse can be indicative of cancer as well, but more often it's something else. It may also be due to an infection or thyroid problem that has caused the cervix or the whole uterus to be inflamed. What ever the cause, the proble should be found and treated.
*Fibroid cyst can be caused by too much estrogen, no matter what your age. That's why many women's symptoms get worse after being put on synthetic hormones, especially estrogen (birth control pills) or while going through peri or menopause. In the past doctors have thought that our estrogen levels gets too low when we have symptoms such as clots, heavy bleeding, irregular bleeding, or when we're going through the change of life. So, they put us on synthetic hormones. When we actually need more progesterone to balance the out of control estrogen. From experience, natural progesterone hormones that you can find at the health food store may help shrink the fibroids, decrease bleeding and help to regulate the thyroid. National news has recently reported that breast cancer has been decreasing as a result of a decrease in prescribed and use of artificial hormone treatment during peri and meno pause.
* I suggested having your thyroid hormones tested because too much estrogen can also cause your thyroid to become over or underactive. Or, an out of balance thyroid can cause other hormones to be out of balance. There is controversy over which happens first, the thyroid problem or the hormone problem.
*Todays tecnology and inventions are great, but much of what we enjoy has adverse effects on us. For example, anything that is in a plastic bottle and has any opportunity to sit in the sun reacts with the sun and forms an artificial estrogen that we take in to our bodies. Some plastics heated in the microwave also do this.
Take care of yourselves and don't be afraid to see a doctor or to ask as many questions as you need to. I hope you all find your answers as I have mine.

i understand what everyone is speaking on regarding the heavy periods, blood clots and pain at certain time of the month. I just recently went to the doctor and they did a vascular ultrasound and found out that i had a mass about 4 inces in length and width. I cramp really bad and have had on and off pain since i was younger and i am 42 now. i have to have surgery on Jan 22 to have it drained and i can't wait.
I hope this information helps ones who has similar symptons.
