I am 50 years young, have had huge blood clots that started in mid November 06 after a 4 month haetus of no periods, and lasted till mid Jan 07. I went to the doctor during the time of the blood letting and he suggested that I go on iron pills because after a blood test, indicated I was anemic from losing so much blood.
I went for a vaginal ultrasound indicating my uterus was enlarged, no fibroids, a simple cyst (water filled only) on my left ovary and suggested that the uterus thickening was: Endometrial hyperplasia, a condition that occurs when the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows too much. It is a benign (not cancer) condition. I went to a naturapathic doctor who put me onto a number of herbal medications and my bleeding stopped within 4 days - totally clear for a whole month. Now, exactly 26 days later, the blood letting has begun again with clots the size of a small volvo. I'm kidding. But seriously, it started up again clotting the size of a large apple.
I find regular doctors just want to medicate and operate: give homone drugs or hystorectomy or D & C. The gynocologyst at my GP's office wanted to immediatly do a D & C. I know there are some good doctors out there who listen and allow their patients to be heard before they prescribe and diagnose. I was very impressed with the naturapathic approach to understanding the problem. When I mentioned that the blood clots stopped after going on natural remidies, my GP blurted out; didn't I know I was anemic (he never told me) and that a D & C is necessary because my condition can change to cancer. Not that he even told me what my condition was.
I asked for a copy of the transvagina ultrasound and have been googling the terms to get a clearer understanding of their findings as my doctor did not explain anything to me. He seemed more interested in psyco-analizing my sons at our last visit then filling me on my reports. I will be searching for a female gynocologyst as I feel more comfortable talking with a woman doctor and knowing that she has first hand understanding of the female body: the cycles, the moods, the ability to discuss, the creation process. I found a website which was good for those who know their bodies best; - www.wrongdiagnosis.com .
As to the the woman's comments about plastics; I think she is quite right as I drink a lot of bottled water and have heard about the releasing of female hormoes through the freezing or heating or even crinkling the plastic bottle.
To all you beautiful and open women here, I found this web blog very useful and has helped me understand through comparison of symptoms that I am not alone with my problem.
Take care and I hope to re-blog once I find out

Hey,
I am almost 13 years old and i have periods that last about 11-15 days and i use the thickest night time towel as a normal towel. I was very scared when it started but mum said it needs time to settle down but it had been a while now and things were getting worse. On top of that i got grumbling appendix and was taken into casualty. i didn't have my appendix out but there were things in my urine sample. The gaps in between were very long ranging from 40 - 60 days . They were falling out of me and i couldnt even do normal p.e, i have a note to the head of p.e that says that i have problems and that i might not be doing p.e all the time. the last one was horrid, lasting for 15 days and very heavy, its normal now for me to miss 2-3 days off school with it because its would pour down my leg. This is a very BAD thing as in 3 weeks i have my end of year exams and i gotta be revising so being at school is even more important. I had the confidence to tell my closest friends who were gob smacked by my story. Many nights were spent crying and i begged mum to take me to the doctor because i was terrified i had serious problems. So i was taken to the doctor (unfortunately it was a man ) and i was put on the pill. I am passing clots and i have never felt pain like this, clutching my stomach. SO i decided to tell you all my story and see if i can get some comfort. The doctor said it was normal but oi was just extremely unlucky . I know most of you will say it needs to sort itself out but i startes last july. Can someone telll if i'm ok or should i go back ?
thanks

I have had abnormal periods since my first cycle when I was eleven, now 33. When I was young I had very few periods during the year, but when I had them, watch out it was like Niagra falls, but no clots. Now as I am getting older, I have had one long, almost continuous "period" for about four years. I have been to four different gynecologists and have been put on several medications, provera, aygestin, yasmin, IUD and nothing works. I pass medium to large blood clots almost every single day, multiple times a day. I am highly anemic and I can't even think straight to go to work. I am very frustrated and don't know where to turn. I have tried everything and nothing works. I am now going to see a doctor that will hopefully help me out, this is a last ditch effort and am willing to do anything, including have a hysterectomy. My quality of life sucks and nobody is willing to even talk about a hysterectomy because I don't have children. But, I am ever optomistic that somebody will help me.

Hi doitright,
I do not think that the prior person who posted was saying the clotting was due to birth control pills. She was saying that she was placed on birth control pills as a result of her clots because the doctor thought the problem was hormonal. I myself have been bleeding with clots for the past two months. My doctor is on a lengthy vacation so a sub doctor has put me on birth control pills also. I have been taking them for one month now and there is no change in my situation. I am 29 and have had my menstrual cycle for the past 20 years. Never once was it irregular or abnormal. I've had an ultrasound and had blood work done but everything checked out normal, except for a couple of very small fibroids I was told not to worry about. I have gotten a second opinion about the fibroids and the second doc said that my bleeding could in fact be caused by the fibroids. My doctor is excellent so I'm sure he will be able to figure everything out once he is back from vacation. You should get checked out. I met a lady at the hospital who had 13 fibroids but 8 doctors told her she was fine. It was my doctor who found her fibroids and removed them. She is now 7mos. pregnant and happy.

I posted a comment the other day and now must revise it. I visited my doctor yesterday and he found a polyp which he removed during my visit. I am no longer bleeding. I knew he'd find the source of my problem because he's a good doctor but the focus for all of us needs to be finding GOOD obgyns. The other one told me I was stressed.

I've never had a regular period, but now I've had my period for a year straight. Once a month, for about 3 to 5 days, it gets really heavy with blood clots that are usually pretty big, like golf ball sized. For the rest of the month though its pretty light, but constant. It might stop for two or three days, then pick right back up again. I've been to the Doctor and they never have any real answers. I've had my thyroid tested and supposedly everything is normal. I usually have no pain at all, I might get a cramp for a little while, one day out of the month, but the bleeding is insane! I've never been on birth control pills and I dont want to. I've been taking Vitex for the last two months, bc its a natural way to help regulate your hormones. But i dont know what else to do. I'm going to start taking iron because I'm always tired, and I think its from losing so much blood. If anybody else has any idea's about what else I can try, please let me know. Or if you live in the south eastern area of NC and you know a good doctor, please advise. I cannot find anyone down here with any answers.

Hi,
For all the women here, try Acupuncture if you are not satisfied with your GYN results. Acupuncture is famous for alleviating many "female" problems that western medicine can not. :-D Take care of yourselves.

Hi there
I have had a normal period for years and in the last month it has all gone wrong!!! I took my period as normal then the week after it finished i had a massive bleed and had a vaginal clot the size of the palm of my hand come away. Went to hospital as must have lost about 2 pints of blood, but they weren;t interested and gave me tablets to stop the bleeding. The same thing happened 12 days later but this time it was while I was sleeping and again lost about 2 pints of blood. Went back to the hospital and they took swabs and blood tests. and after me advising them that I was trying for a baby yjey put me on to sets of tablets 1 that can make you infertile and the other clearly states do not take while pregnant or truing for a baby!!! Please help as I am getting no where with the doctors

Hello all!
I had my period and it looked like it was going off, and all of a sudden I started bleeding heavily with big clots. I have no pain but I am going through a box of overnight pads a day. This has been going on for about three days now, and I started taking iron pills because I feel weak from the blood loss. I can't leave my house because the flow is so heavy. I am starting to worry because this has never happened before, and I am 39 years old. I will be going to the doctor.
