i have nothing relating to the problems you all are discussing. i had a bacteria infection and was trying to find info on it when i stumbled across these blogs. i just had one question for you all.......are you tasting your own discharge or is someone else, like a boyfriend/husband, tasting it? if so, were you told by your doctor to do so or you just did it on your own? i just think that is totally disgusting to taste a discharge!!....not to be rude though.

Are you that out of touch with your own body that you find this disgusting? Or perhaps ashamed? I think it's pretty natural, and in fact a good way to know what's going on with your health. How would you know what is normal or abnormal - a lot of times these type of things are little clues to something systemic or an imbalance in the body that needs attention.
I just noticed this issue in myself and am glad to find others dealing with it. I'm thinking of doing the alkaline diet, and I'll probably try taking acidophilus supplements, too, just to make sure I have all the good bacteria there that I need.

I thought I was the only person either that or I was going crazy! About 2 months ago my bf told me my vajayjay tasted different I didn't really give any thought because he really didn't make it seem like a big deal plus I just started taking some new vitamins. I thought maybe it was the vitamins or something but then I happened to taste what he tasted when I performed oral on him....I was so stunned! I have never in my life tasted like this, its like sucking on a lemon or lime. I went out and bought a vaginal ph kit I figured something must be wrong but my ph level was 4.5 which is normal for the vagina (I thought maybe it was kind of early sign of BV...but there is no foul odor like most cases of BV). Basically I have come to the conclusion that my body is too acidic so I went out bought veggies in a bottle (green food), probiotics, and chlorphyll (sp) hopefully these things work in my best intrest. But I am so glad to know that other people have the same issues. Also someone posted that they had wetness and sometimes foul smell that sounds like BV (bacterial vaginosis) the medical community does not quite understand it some say its a sexually transmitted others say its not (you can get if you are a virgin) But there are some natural remdies out there...but that is a whole different subject. If you want something natural look up Dr. James Christian he has a website called www.vaginosis.com you can email him question and he will get back to you (he did with me). Also with the whole BV thing it seems to be that alot of women who have HPV (I am assuming thats why you had your cervix scraped) also suffer from BV. I hope this helps at least one person out there!

I want to expand on my last post as i have read more of yall's posts. i had a 'no tension vaginal sling on my erethra' 3 yrs ago. it did help, i no longer have urine pouring out of me. I have had children and the ONLY times i have had a yeast infection is when i was pregnant, (i have had my tubes tied for 5 yrs).
I am in a monogamous relationship and i have no discharge. the smell is not 'fishy', it is sour. i have tried everything i can think of (shaving, douching ect..) i have a close relationship with my hubby and he says the smell is not coming out of my "vaggi" it is from the 'outside' as he calls it. i have gone to my MD for the yearly check up(no STD, or 'infections') and he has refered me to a GYN and to a urologist(sp).
I will update in the next 2 weeks after i go to both of them and let yall know what they say.
GB yall, its rough when a woman is in this situation

I had a whitish almost transparent discharge when i was pregnant. I also noticed that my taste got sour, like diluted lemon juice. I asked my GYN and he said not to worry- as long as it tastes sour- it's fine! There is no infection or anything wrong, cos of the higher acidity of my natural vagina environment. he said to start worrying if it starts tasting funny, kinda like baking soda or has a smell, also if the discharge changes its color. The normal amount of discharge can vary in women, but can be up to two table spoons at all times, usually getting more around the time of ovulation.
It gives a whole new meaning to "sour pu**y":-)) Sorry, didn't mean to be rude, just thought it would be funny:)

I have seen and tasted this many times on many different girls. This is why i insist that they take a shower and rinse this area well before I will make any contact with it. I always just thought it was from the women wiping in the wrong direction.
I am very interested in what is causing this, how else would I have come across this forum

To have a GYN who has never tasted her own vagina seems a little strange to me...hello, it's your career, you should probably investigate. It's like a baker never having eaten her own cake.
You should go get ANOTHER new doctor...this one seems a little...ahem...fishy!

i'm 17 and have the same sour discharge. i can't figure out what's causing it. it's extremely embarrassing to me and i just want it to go away. i have been more stressed lately and not watching my diet as much and the sourness is much more frequent. maybe they're connected?

Oh my god! Post after post of the exact same thing and we all thought we were alone!! But still no answers... :'(
We need to speak up to our GYNs and let them know that this problem is probably rampant and undiagnosed because it is not being talked about and because it is being unhappily tolerated by women who 1) have been unable to fix it, 2) are too embarassed to try to fix it, 3) remain ignorant because they are too uncomfortable with their own body to investigate, or 4) have been told its normal.
There is nothing wrong with smelling or tasting yourself. It may seem odd, but there is truly nothing unhealthy or unethical about it. Many women do it.
I have had the same experience as one of the other posters-- discharge will come gushing out, as if I'm peeing at times. A tablespoon or two. I go to the bathroom to investigte. I look: clear/whitish/translucent-- nothing like a bacterial infection or STD. I smell: clean, non-offensive, a slight sour odor-- again, nothing bacterial or STD. I taste myself: sour, tart, bitter.
I've had these symptoms since I was (at least) 15 or 16! I'm now almost 27. I always check out perfectly normal at the GYN. Always normal paps. Once or twice a UTI. Sometimes some yeast. But all efforts against yeast (antibiotics, probiotics, plain yogurt, garlic, air, etc...) never relieve my condition. I've felt helpless and alone for more than a decade until finally finding this post.
So now I am thinking about stress and body acidity. I am a stressed person, though less-so lately. I eat a pretty healthy diet. No caffeine, no drugs. Minimal processed foods, refined sugars, and meats. Mostly I eat a wide variety of whole grains, vegetables, and fruits. I lead a moderately active lifestyle but inconsistent exercise routine with extended periods of inactivity. On the cusp of overweight. Home pH tests come out normal or slightly alkaline. Still, I'm desperate to be free of this condition!!!!!!!!!

Well, all us fine women seem to be just a baffled buy this condition, as are the doctors!
My symptoms started approx 3 to 4 years ago. My regular vaginal discharge went from a clearish/yellowy-white mucusy/stretchy gel like state, (Ha! a lot of those words don't even exist, so you can see how hard it is when faced with a poker faced GP or Gyno) with a non-offensive salty/sweet sour, dare I say normal taste. To a white watery/paste like discharge, that is sometimes heavy sometimes not. And the taste, ('o.O') OH MY GOODNESS!!! SO Sour!! Horrible! When I'm with my partner (sorry, not wanting to be too graphic ('8-|') ) and we go from standard love making to oral... I nearly gag with how bitter and sour I am...
Now may I recommend that you don't say normal to a doctor, this appears to really annoy them.
DOC: (Bored expression) "So, what is normal? No one woman is alike"
ME: "Yes, well, so sorry, I don't wish to be a problem, but this isn't normal for me"
Has a look, takes a swab.
(All of which come back negative... whatever it is they are testing for! They always insist going down the thrush path... I don't have thrush!!! Have had it, know what it's like when I've got it, and have always treated it effectively!)
DOC: "Bodies change. Stop worrying".
Boots you out the door!
Now if it wasn't for this.... worry of mine... I'd be skipping through a field right about now, like one of those not a care in the world women in a tampon commercial!!!
Now being a woman of the world, and not being ashamed of anything my body is capable of producing; I have walked my confused twat into visit doctors in Australia (Melbourne), Japan (Tokyo), France (Nante), UK (London) (Never got around to it in America WAY TOO EXPENSIVE anyway).
So, where did this leave me? Well, my last visit to the Doctor was in April of this year (2009) in Australia, and after the initial backwards and forwards (resulting in me looking like a hypochondriac) I finally got the point across that I wanted her to test for everything. No matter what she thought I did or didn't have.
So a test was done that had not been done before, and now after reading about it I can't understand why not! I was tested for Group B Strep. The results came back and showed that I had a little higher than normal reading. She informed me that anywhere from 15% to 30% of the female population have Beta strep and have suffer no symptoms. The only time they look at actually treating it, is when you are pregnant and about to give birth or suffering from urinary tract infections.
She said that she very much doubted that this was the cause of my problem and recommended that I once again not worry about it and that bodies change with age (I’m 29). She also said that it was very difficult to treat and that once you have it, it usually reoccurs after treatment and becomes resistant to drugs. Yet, with most women never even knowing they have Beta Strep this is hardly ever a problem.
I on the other hand insisted on being treated, as maybe this was the cause in my case. I was prescribed LPV 500 (phenoxymethylpenicillin 500mg) 2 tablets 3 times a day for 12 days.
So, what do you know!! 6 days later I was back to my normal state!!! I simply could not believe it! I was so happy that I couldn’t stop grinning when telling my partner about it. However 12 days later due to the antibiotics I had terrible thrush!! AH!!! So, after treating myself for that and then having my period. EEhhhgaaa Blahhhh!!! I was ready to skip though a field!
(':'(') Ten days later my bizarre little body was back to it’s white/sour miserable self!
Do I try antibiotics again? And treat my self for thrush at the same time! I don’t like antibiotics… and the more I read about this AWFUL Beta Strep the more disheartened I am… NO ONE has a cure…
Anyway thought you all might want to test for this… You never know, maybe we’re all having a strange reaction to this so-called normal bacteria Group B Streptococcus…
:-(

Hi there, I hate that your doctor didn't treat you with enough respect but you know what you can do? see another doctor. You dont' have to tolerate a doctor with poor bedside manner and I don't think enough people feel comfortable telling their doctor to respect them. Have ou thought of going to a new one?

I am so glad that I stumbled across this forum! I've had the same problem for years, and I'm 18. I always thought I was alone! I'm going to go out now and buy something to bring acidity down and I'm going to start taking my anti-anxiety meds again. I really hope it helps.

Hi
This discharge is not normal, I usually dont smell of anything and my discharge is sweet tasting. A month ago I developed a slight yeast infection which i knocked out with tea tree oil but since then I have had an abnormal clear discharge with horrible bitter sour taste. After being annoyed with it for 2 weeks found the answers on earthclinic dot com under bacterial vaginosis. Have taken folic acid and acidophillus for a couple of days. What really killed it was a tampon soaked in half 3% hydrogen peroxide and water worn for approximately half an hour. No smell and no discharge immediately!! after removal, back to sweet taste. Couldnt believe it, will do this if the smell and discharge comes back which 48hours later it hasnt. I also inserted after using tampon, on a tiny spoon a broken capsule of acidophilus to put back in good bacteria.

How, so glad I found this site! I have been having these EXACT same issues for about 6-8 months now.
I am a 23 yr old female, and am sexually active, in a monogamous relationship. My normal discharge, all my life until now, has been pretty much clear, with a mucousy texture similar to nasal mucous I guess? Sometimes would be quite thick during different times in my cycle, more like raw egg whites? But never smelled strongly. You know, normal vaginal discharge.
I have also experienced the discharge of a yeast infection. More like cottage cheese, with an unpleasant odor and itchyness.
This is NOTHING like that.
All of the sudden, I noticed during sex that I had A LOT of discharge, and that it hada very strange texture, tickness, and smell. It was very white, not clear. It did not have a normal slimy texture, it was thicker almost like flour and water mixed together, very creamy. It would be all over the bed and all over us. Then the smell was unlike anything I had ever experienced down there. It wasn't fishy at all, not even unpleasant, just very very distinct and strong. It is a sharp smell, kind of sour and acidy, almost like granny smith apples, weird. And the taste is bizzare also, extremely sour and bitter. Like an orange peel!
The first time it happen I assumed it was some sort of yeast infection or a bacterial infection, because of the creamyness and white color. Went to the gyno, and got tested for a yeast infection. She was clueless and only wanted to test me for STDs, but I knew for sure it wasn't an STD. She said everything tested notmal, there was nothing wrong, and gave me tips on how to keep clean down there. Thats it. I felt so frustrated because I know my body very well, and something is wrong. How could she not provide me with an answer.
So, I started to self-diagnose. I thought it could be a reaction to my shower gel, b/c the smell was not bad, just weird. I then thought it was an allergic reaction to the condoms we had, just becase I only really noticed the problem during intercourse. Nothing solved the problem. My boyfriend is mature and non-judgemental about the situation, but I am extremely embarrased and self-concious about this. Since niether of us knowwhat it is, we don't know what to do. I have stopped having him do oral on me. I just feel extremely gross down there. This is making me feel like I will never be able to relax and enjoy sex again! I love sex, this cannot happen!
I finally googled and found this thread. I feel relieved, but also dissapointed since everyone seems to be having such a hard time getting rid of it. I am making an appointment at a different ob-gyn ASAP and having them test me for strep B right then. I am going to prinf off all of these responses and bring them in. I also found an article on pubmed about a study of vaginal discharge and strep Bdone in the 80s. The doctors in this study recognise a real relationship b/w strep B and actual symptoms in non-pregnant women. They treated them by dong several rounds of antibiotics, until the infection went away. Something that many doctors don't want to do. I am printing that off as well. here is the link:
I have not even been diagnosed yet, but I am absolutely positive I have this. I will post the results here as soon as I know.
This is awful :-(
