I use a diva cup....it's so much more comfortable for me than using tampons or cotton a liner ever was...and it's silicon so it causes no extra dryness....just a suggestion...takes a teeny bit of practice to get comfortable using it...but I'll never go back to tampons and best part is I've never had it leak and since it goes inside you can very comfortably wear thong underwear...it's like your not even having your period...beside a few cramps that is....

I have been having the same issue. I am Married and we don't have sex during intercourse as it grosses both of us out, but This seemed to be the most helpful. However, it is just an answer board like this and not a doctor (but an RD i believe) so I'm going to try it after my next period. My mistake this time was douching after my period. Do NOT do that. Anyway.. Check out the link. Hope it helps. Oh, and seeing as your post was over a year ago.. did you find anything that helped? I'm still itchy so….

This has been happening to me since before I got my first period. I am 18 and a virgin. My doctor has no clue whats causing it. I am just so glad I am not the only one, I thought I was crazy. I first got it for about a month before I ever started my period... it was so bad that it was too uncomfortable to even where jeans. Ever since I started it has only been for the week leading up to my period, and a few days after. If anybody finds anything that eases the discomfort, please let us know... I am sure every woman with this problem would appreciate it greatly.

Ok.  I have been dealing with this for 3 years now.  It all started when I started dating a new guy and having "relations" with him on a continual basis.  I also started drinking only wine at this time (no mixed drinks or beer). It started as irritation...cuts only and only every other month.  Then, it started to become irritated more frequently.  I started to get a yeast infection once every other month.  I finally went to GYN and they found nothing except a yeast infection.  They put me on the diflucan once pill immediately and then another 3 days later.  I had about 3 of these two step scripts.  I was good for about 3 or 4 months until the cuts and irritation began again, but no yeast infections.  I am going back to the GYN, but this is seriously ridiculous.  Do you think yeast overgrowth?

oddly enough, extra virgin olive oil, works like a charm EACH time!! the relief lasts1/3 of the day, so i do it in the morning, after i get home from work and at night after i shower, I sleep with no undies, that helps aswell. If the smell bothers you, ad a few drops of ALL NATURAL LAVENDAR ESSENCE. hope this helps!!!

I recently started having the same problem...Hydrocortisone didn't work for me, and the doctor tested my boyfriend and I both for STDs, yeast, BV, and general skin irritants, and found nothing. I'm starting to think I'm allergic to the pads and tampons, so I'm considering switching brands this month. But I've found that using about half a tablespoon coconut oil, 3-5 drops of tea tree oil (both natural antibacterical/anti-microbial) and 1-2 drops of peppermint oil (just for scent because tea tree oil has a strong smell), it takes away the itch and sting for at least 7-10 hours. I've been doing it twice a day, EVERY DAY, and the symptoms don't last nearly as long as they used to!

Omg I have this same exact problem and it's SO annoying! It only happens before during and after my period I'll get and annoying itchy feeling right before and after is when it's the worst but a few days later it'll just go away and it always shows up in the crease between my inner thigh and vagina they're like tiny little red bumps/blisters I've been tested for everything as well and it isn't an std I just want some konda treatment if not a cure so I can just gwt rid of it

To anyone for whom an allergy to sanitary products could be an issue (and I'm guessing any of us could have developed an allergy at some point) - I've found using a menstrual cup to be an enormous relief in this and other areas. It doesn't dry you out, you don't have to wear a damp, bloody pad, it's WAY less expensive than buying tampons and you only have to think about it twice a day or so. It couldn't hurt to check it out! I hope this provides some relief for some of you!!

I'm 22, and I've had this problem for over a year now, I get itchy before a period, but it is worse during and after.. I alternate between pads and tampons but this doesn't seem to really help, I stay away from scented products! I have been to the doctors several times and been given thrush creams but they don't help and they told me to go and get tested for STD's which I have none.. My partner occasionally gets sore and a red rash if we have sex around that time. But after a period I am too sore to even think about that... I've used vagisil PH balance which has helped slightly.. Going to the toilet when it's red, itchy and swollen hurts so much! Just wondered if anyone had come across something that really helps!!

Hope this helps I found it on the net :-) Cyclic vulvovaginitis What is cyclic vulvovaginitis? Cyclic vulvovaginitis refers to recurrent burning and itching sensation that occurs at the same stage of every menstrual cycle. The pain specifically worsens just before or during the menstrual bleeding, or may settle during bleeding.Cyclic vulvovaginitis occurs in women of all ages that are still menstruating. What are the symptoms of cyclic vulvovaginitis? Between cyclical flare-ups the patient may have no symptomsIntense burning, irritation, stinging and itching just before or during menstrual bleedingPain can be aggravated by sexual activity and is usually worse the day after intercourseCyclic vulvovaginitis can lead to localised or generalised vulvodynia. What causes cyclic vulvovaginitis? Cyclic vulvovaginitis is due to recurrent thrush (candida infection). Vaginal smears and cultures should be performed to confirm this. If a culture taken during a symptomatic phase comes back negative, a swab and a scraping during the asymptomatic phase should be taken and cultured. The laboratory should report the specific strain of candida and its drug sensitivities so that the most appropriate treatment may be selected. When candida is not cultured, symptoms may be due to dermatitis associated with oestrogen hypersensitivity, which is thought to be due to the higher levels of circulating oestrogen present premenstrually. It is treated by progesterone. Management of cyclic vulvovaginitis The main goal of treatment is to remove the cause. When candida is responsible, topical and oral antifungal agents are used to treat the flare-ups. The oral agents ketoconazole, itraconazole and fluconazolemay also be prescribed to prevent further candidal infection, taken intermittently (there are various regimes). Boric acid intravaginal capsules or pessaries may also be prescribed. If candida is not cultured, all antifungal agents should be discontinued. To reduce contact with irritants, it may be helpful to use pads instead of tampons during menstruation, and to take baking soda sitz baths. Non-soap cleanser should be used for washing.Irritation due to dermatitis may settle with hydrocortisone cream; it is not usually helpful or desirable to use more potent topical steroids. Some patients find the tricyclic antidepressant drugamitriptyline helpful.
