my son had the same thing. i rushed hime to the e.r. the doc there said that he had swollen lymph nodes behind his ear and in his stomach. he said basically it was a viral infection that has to run it's course. it could take from a day to a week. luckily my son's cleared up within two days. you should drink plenty of liquids and lots of rest.

I am sitting in the hospital as I speek. The reason for me being here is because the same thing your boyfriend has, it is called Mesenteric Adenitis. I came to the hospital yesterday, and thought I was literally about to die because of the pain, and the hospital staff thought I had appendicitis, btu it wasnt. They cant do anything for Mesenteric Adenitis, except for pain management. I had to stay in the hospital because I was throwing up, and couldnt keep pills down.

I had similar symptoms. about a month back I noticed a lump in my stomach. there no pain or external swelling. however I can feel the lump in the right side of my stomach. So I got it checked last week. The doctor said it was a lymph node and that there's nothing to worry about. It's a collection or a ball of white blood cells (thats what she told me). and that it occurs or forms when there is excess heat in the body .. mostly in summer. She said if it gets bigger and starts paining, then possibly get a MRI or a CT scan. I came out of the clinic a bit irritated not knowing how to get rid of it.

Hi there,
I have been reading these threads with great interest and am wondering to myself if anybody has been checked for CLL ( Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia). This is a disease were the lymph nodes get enlarged, particularly the neck, arm pits, stomach and groin. I have had this disease for nearly 7 years now and have been fighting to try and keep it at bay. Usually blood checks are the way ahead with a CT scan to determine how large the glands are. I am not saying that all these cases are CLL but there are similarities. If in doubt get checked out by a doctor, don't sit on it until it is too late as i did. Wish everyone the best and hope all is well.

hi my daughter has the same thing....it is caused by an infection in the gi track that has spread to the lymph nodes.. antibiotics and steriods can not help... pain meds and muscel relaxers and nausa meds are about all that help a little...hers is so bad that it has caused her appendix to be squeezed by the lymph nodes and she now has several peices of bowel in the appendix...her doctor said that the pain is equal to a woman giving birth and having her appendix rupture at the same time!!! there is nothing that can be done...but let time heal it...now you can change your diet to a soft diet and give the gi track a chance to "cool off"...good luck hope this helps....ohh it takes several days to several months to settle down the inflamation

Hi everyone! Wow - this is what I am going through with my son. He has missed so much school this year from general fatigue/not feeling well that he is going to fail - he's 13. The school was wanting to call probation on us, not believing he was sick. We went to the ER a couple months ago with severe right lower abdominal pain...did the CAT scan w/ contrast and it showed swollen lymph nodes (appendix was fine) and inflammed bowels and liver. Liver Enzyme tests came back high/abnormal. No fever, no chills, no other symptoms. Pain went down after a week so we thought it was viral and the MD was 'waiting it out'. Took more and more blood tests and liver function tests are getting worse at each check, but the pain is better - only hurts if you press on it now. My son is soooo tired, but the MD keeps saying he's a teenager. Ok, I know teens get tired, but my son tells me he feels awful all the time, but I ask if he has a headache, sore throat, etc and he says no and I just don't feel good. So anyways - now we are going to a gastroenterologist 100 miles away next week. It took all this time for the insurance authorization. Anyone get any further on this and actually find out what was wrong? I work for a nursing service and have heard about how they 'stage' lymphoma and how important early detection is in that cancer...and if it turns out to be cancer, my son might not have very good chances to survive (or so I'm told)...so would a gastroenterologist recomment an oncologist if he thought cancer was a possibility? I am worried about how long this is going on. With the rough year my son has had (to include the whole family getting carbon monoxide poisoning this past year that took a long time to recover from fully), my husband booked a condo on the florida coastline for the two of us and my son in a few weeks...I wish the MD's would figure this out so I'd feel safe taking my son on vacation to see him smile again. I want him to go parasailing, snorkeling, etc...but I'm afraid he won't be able to. Are there simple answers to why lymph nodes do this and the liver tests?

hello everyone my girlfriend just found out that it is very serious and it can be fatal its benign lymph nodes which detaches from the bowel and it causes very severe pain in your back they said it takes 7-10 days for the pain to go away with proper medicine but we are getting another opinion from John Hopkins medical center so i will keep in contact

I didnt notice anyone saying anything about the possibilities of lymphoma. My girlfriend's ct just came back showing enlarged lymph nodes in her upper and lower abdomen. The doctor is sending her to a cancer hospital for testing of lymphoma. They said it is a 50/50 chance or else it could be her gall bladder. Ask your doctors to look into that just incase. I hope this is not the case for all of you and your loved ones (as well as mine!) Good luck, I hope you figure out what is causing you so much discomfort.

I wish I had the answer for this is well. My daughter (10) has been in and out of the ER and pediatrician office with fever, headache, stomach pains for 4 wks now and all of her blood tests and ct scans and xrays came back normal. Ct scan did show swolen and inflammed lymph nodes in her stomach which I was told was the body's normal reaction to fighting an infection or virus. Just have to wait it out as they feel it is a long term viral illness, but the pains are so severe at times she is in tears. Going to see a GI dr next but so far infectious disease has said the same thing all the other drs are saying - just viral and wait... Good luck

I wanted to share my story so far. Had weird sensations about 1.5 months ago and thought maybe it was gas. Then three weeks after that started I had lower right abdominal pain that got severe. I went to ER and they found swollen lymph nodes all over my abdomen. But they didnt know why. They called it mesenteric lymphandentisis and put me on antibiotics and lortab. It didnt get rid of my pain. I had seen a gastroenterologist and all the tests came back normal. She referred me to a hematologist to rule out lymphoma and I have an appointment in a couple of weeks. In the mean time I've been going to my family doctor for medication and for him to "guess" at what I have. Oh, and they think it "may" be chronic appendicitis. They have no clue. I just have to sit here and worry about it being cancer throughout the holiday months and they are okay with that but I'm not! My only other symptoms are low right abdominal pain that radiates to my back and slightly down my right leg. The chiro has helped some but does not answer for the lymph nodes. I have a lot of muscle twitches in my legs and other than that and being tired I dont have anymore symptoms. Anyone else out there like this?

you might want to check to see if you have a form of strep. this can cause swollen lymph nodes and constant sore throats. i had to get my tonsils taken out for mine cause the streptelococus bacteria ended up in my gut and spread to the lymph nodes down there. check to see if you are a carrier or the disease. me and my brother were. he's cured and i'm better but not completely healed. check it out. its worth it.
