Hi, I have had this heavy head feeling for a few years now, it started with a tense feeling and has become much worse over the last eighteen months or so. GPs seem to treat me with disdain, I did break down recently while visiting a GP and she sent me for Physio which seems to be helping but I don't know how much of that is down to a physiological boost cos nobody has done anything else to help me......I even found myself saying to the Physiotherapist that maybe it was a psychological problem cos I personally was at a loss to explain a pain which is so debilitating, but so few other people seem to experience it? It makes me feel so sick at times and probably worst of all - I feel embarrassed...I no longer look normal...I have to walk up the isle of a supermarket twice now - from each end of the isle - just to make sure that I don't miss the products that I'm shopping for, how embarrassing is that? Children pass comments on my posture, I actually had to tell a work colleague to stop ridiculing me for my posture or else I would leave my employment, what else can I do? I'm at my wits end....[

I advise try a nice down pillow with good lumbar support for a good night sleep; do physical therapy for your back and back stretches; a nice bed as well that has good back support.

air purifer, water air humidifier.

exercise as well...

Friends
I too have had this problem for some years now.
I also have been diagnosed with vertigo and know when I go over the line and it hits with a vengeance. That is a terrible thing and it is good to keep Dramamine or any of th motion sickness pills around to shorten the duration and severity.
Also I have already had one disc replaced at the base of my neck and know that there is another that was in bad shape too. Some day it might have to be replaced as well.

Now - here is how things are with me and this problem.
After several thousands of dollars of tests and different types of therapies (none of them helped), I found a chiropractor that knew exactly what to do and how much to work at it before stopping and having me come back a day or two later to finish up with the session.
She made adjustments in the neck area (with special consideration for the fuzed vertibre) as well as adjustments between the shoulder blades.
Sometimes she would even adjust my lower back because it was influencing the upper spine too.
Sometimes it would take a day or 2 after her adjustments to know if it worked but she was successful 90% of the time at the first appointment.
It took some years for her to know me well enough to be this successful but for the past 5 years, she really had my number.

Now I am over a month with the same old problem and she is not in the area any more. I know how hard it was to find a good chiro....and wish you the best of luck in finding one for yourselves. I am in the same boat as you all are again.

Good luck.
By the way - the MRI is a very good idea before having adjustments in the neck area.

I too have the same issues. I have gotten to the point I don't sleep anymore, with out ambien. When this first started I was so freaked out about what was happening, I went to the DR and explained what was going on.

He handed me lexipro and lorazpam and said come back and see. So I took the meds and it just made it worse, other then the sex could go on for hours.

I was so numb to everything, had surgery and made it worse. No I am up all the time and looking for answers.

Anyone have success yet?

I had the same problem and I found a way to control it and live a normal life.
Here is what you do:
Step 1: Tests
1- Blood test: Iron , Sugar, Liver and Thyroid enzymes, WBC, ...
2- ECG
3-Chest X-Ray
4-EEG
5-Holter Monitor
5-CT
6-Color MRI

Step 2: If nothing was found -- Continue for 4-6 months
1-Chiropractic (Must be NUCCA Certified) - Atlas Vertebrae alignment.
2-Aerobic + Stretching (Neck, Shoulders, ... ) : BE VERY GENTLE!!!!!!!!!!!
3-2x15min Meditation (Vipassana is the best)

Step 3: After you got better, this step will stabilize you for 1-2 years
1-Naturapathy or Homeopathy
2-Acupuncture

General Considerations
1-Never underestimate the power or suggestion - A hypnotherapist can prove my point to you
2-Never underestimate the self healing power of your body: Feed it right, Stay away from tension, laugh, love and be loved, ... you'll see WONDERS!!! WONDERS!!!

I felt sick and depressed for a very long time. Couldn't drive, couldn't make love, ....

The above procedure, helped me. SAVED me.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention.

There are cases that usually are accompanied by slightly elevated blood pressure.

It is very much possible that it's due to vertebrae and the flow of oxygen into brain.

In that case, many drugs, including 120mg of Ginkgo biloba and saw palmetto can help.

DO NOT RELY ON MY PRESCRIPTION.

Talk to your doctor and ask them to give you medications for that.
Some Alzheimer drugs can do that very easily.

It won't heart you if you do that, Just for a month.

Good Luck

Please let me know how it worked for you,
Thanks

Hello, I hope my experience may help some people out there..I have a weak neck and recently experienced all the horrible symptoms that I did a couple of years ago..ie..shakiness..weakness...lethargy..headaches..dizzines...anxiety..lack of sleep..back pain..I remembered then that I cut my hair short and this really helped..if you have weakness in the neck cut your hair short..if heavy it is constantly pulling, I cut my hair today again and will let you know if the pain subsides...it is literally driving me mad..but please be assured you are not mad..weakness in the neck affects you in so many ways and if your hair is pulling constantly it is giving you tension..try it..hope it helps you as it did me last time...having cut a 6 inches off I am hoping this will help.

Hi
I just wanted to write a reply to you in reference to your bad experience with your neck and the side effects it seems to be causing.
I had a similar situation whilst on holiday in Spain. I was practicing Pilates / Yoga and must have strained my neck in some way. Dizzyness and sickness came on immidiately and I could barely stand let alone walk. I lay down but the dizzyness was too much so had to remain seated. It got a little better throughout the day but when night came I was being sick and felt like I was really drunk. I couldnt close my eyes to sleep because the room was spinning. I finally got to sleep on my side and woke up panicking in the middle of the night becasue I literally felt like I was going to die! I kep blacking out/sweating/headache and feeling sick and incredibly dizzy - I was pretty hysterical - my poor boyfriend was besides himself and ended up taking me to the Spanish hospital where no one spoke English!!
The only way to relieve the dizzyness was to put me on an IV drip and unfortunately I cannot tell you what this was as I say we were in a rural town and they literally spoke no English whatsoever. Spanish seemed to think that this problem was very common however. I was sick again twice at hospital. One thing I can say about the Spanish is their healthcare is second to none - they were fantastic - they tested my blood, urine, X rayed my neck and put me on the IV all within the space of an hour an a half of arriving at the hospital (and got all the resullts back) They diagnosed my symptoms as a nerve in the neck that had been disrupted and to take it easy.
That was a week ago and Im back in England - I am still not right and keep getting dizzy spells. I am going to see an English doctor tomorrow I hope so if any further news becomes of it I will certainly write and tell you if I find any remedy. Other than that all I can suggest that has helped me has been to relax and take it very easy for a while until the nerve repairs itself. H xx

Your case might be 1-Cervical Kyphosis or 2-VBI (VERTEBROBASILAR INSUFFICIENCY)

In either case, all the symptoms you explained might appear.

You need either a CT (Neck imaging) or my recommendation is an MRI to investigate any Vertebra related disorders.

Please take this very seriously and ask your doctor about VBI.

Good Luck

P.S: Drugs like Ginkgo or a combination or drugs like "Higher Mind" from source natural MIGHT help. BUT!!! due to the sensitivity of this disorder (One of the main causes for Parkinson and Alzheimer, I strongly encourage you to go to a doctor FIRST! )

I have experienced the same issues. It came out know where with dizziness, sweating, feeling like someone was on my chest. I couldn't get out of bed for 3 wks I was prescribed meclazine for the dizziness which did help out a lot. After the three weeks it would come and go. Now I have this heavy neck feeling, my esophagus feels tight, I feel groggy, and out of it sometimes. This has been going on now for 4 months and I feel like I'm going crazy. I have had every test and this week I saw a gastro doc who stated that I probably have viseral hypersensitivity along with anxiety. I looked at anxiety nd all the symptoms seems to really point to anxiety which is so weird because I have never suffered from that before. My gastro doc is going to give me celexa which is an anti anxiety medication that gastro docs use to aid in the visceral hypersensitivity. I'll let you know how that seems to work.

Apparenty visceral hypersensitivity is where your nerve endings from you esophagus to your stomach are kind of going crazy and it causes all the symptoms that I described. My doc said that once you start to focus every day on these symptoms you really start to make them worse therefore causing yourself to now also suffer from anxiety. I mean I guess it all makes sense!

We will see how well I do with the celexa medication!

I had all this and it is caused by cervical arthritis If you look it up you will find pain weakness dizziness and depression Treatments vary but you could actually do harm with a chiropractor if there is nerve impingment You need a cervical and brain MRI Any GP can order that. The fact that yoou neck is involved rules out ear Your eighth cranial nerve controls balance it is in the back of your head You really need a good doc and an mri I would see a neurologist.

u said in ur xray ur spine was forward? i had something like this happen to me when i was younger and everyone thought i was faking. when i had to wake up early to go to school my neck felt stiff and weak....that caused alot of throwing up and bad headaches..anyway and xray showed it was spasms and when i held my head down at school or long car rides i got ill..... the spasms untreated made my spine straight... i think u should get a second look on that xray...and they taught me an exercise. put ur head all the way down and hold your chin down just enough to add some weight and lift ur head while holding ur chin....just enough to add a little pressure...makes ur neck stronger.

I'm now finished with my 38th doctor. No help whatsoever.

I have learned not too use the word vertigo as everyone assumes your spinning around wen you say that. Even dizziness suggests that.
My problem is a rocking sensation, sea legs. Sitting or standing in a row boat. I sit up I tip over.

When I stand I feel like I'm sinking into the ground like in quicksand.

The first 6 or 7 years of this i really didn't notice the neck & back stiffness, burning, soreness. Now it is constant. MRI's show cervical spine buldging discs etc.. but the neurologist say NO it's not causing the balance problem. I have seen 12 Neurologists and 11 ENT's

They are wrong! This problem is connected some how.

What i wanted to share with is something is THIS.

Write down what makes you feel worse
Write down what relieves your symptoms if anything does at all.

See ALL the test in the world are one thing, but clues are another.
I have all the evidence that my neck & back are a big part of my balance disorder. But Bozo the doctors can't look past there tests and charts. And not only that 34 of the 38 I saw didn't care about me one teeny bit. I can see that in persons eyes any person in 5 seconds.

NOTE! Nobody cares about you more than YOU! Meaning no one is gonna help you more than yourself. Question answers!
Don't waste time with MD's who don't want to help you.

This is not like a TV show where they sit around and talk about there patients and how they can't sleep at night until they figure outr what's wrong with you. You are a muffler at Midas. 10 - 15 minutes and on to the next muffler.

I'm MUCH worse now as I can't hold up my own body weight and can't do ANYTHING basically. It's taken me all night to type this. 13 years of NOTHING! but BS. My job terminated me six years now.. denied disability twice already. Nobody cares! This all causes loads of trouble. Anxiety Panic & depression as well.

If your having panic attacks due to your balance trouble let me know.
I have figured out a way to beat them totally.

God Bless and keep sharing your stories, you never know where help is gonna come from it may be each other.!

I cannot believe Im reading the EXACT same problems I was having trouble explaining myself! Heavy head --- neck feels weak -- dizzy -- weird nausea feeling.

What have you found out? I have an ENT appt coming up. Im so worried that ive been watching my sugar --- thought it might be hypoglycemia. Monitoring my blood pressure --- its not that either.

I suppose it could be extreme fatigue? Tension? Stress?

But how does that cause the dizzy, heavy head feeling?
