Hi everybody, I get bouts of this neck fatigue, pain and nausea. For maybe 7 or 8 years.

However, I realised fairly soon it has a lot to do with pillows and mattress. Unhappily after buying 4 mattress, some of which were very expensive, I still haven't found one that is as good as my friend's. Her mattress has the label removed so I don't know the make. But I am off mattress hunting again. Just like Goldilocks, the mattress' which seem fine in the shop, are too hard, or too soft when I've used them for a while. Also when on holidays my neck improves too, due to the mattress. I find a good pillow also makes a difference. But pillows need to be carefully positioned. If I don't turn the mattress every week, depending on the mattress my cervical discs bother me, or my rhomboids.

A new thing I've noticed is that the nausea and neck TENSION gets worse when I use fake tan. I stopped using it for 6 months, and put it on today, hence the achey neck again today.

I am peri menopausal and this is just another problem, I must say overall a health supplement called macca has improved the other stressful sympthoms even the neck problems.

Good posture, less time in the same position, particularly at the computer or driving can help. So can yoga and exercise in general with specific neck exercises.

But always get checked out, everyone is different and the Doc might spot some underlying cause. Just letting you know my experiences which might save someone here a few years trying to work stuff out.

My girlfriend gave birth to our baby 10 weeks ago, she had a terrible pregnancy and was on crutches during most of it. Since having the baby she has been getting pounding headaches, dizziness, sore necks, sore mouth, she feels like her eyes are bruised round about them, and her vision totally goes every so often, blotchy and zig zags. She was taken into hospital and had blood tests, brain scan etc, everything came back all clear, they diagnosed it as tension and gave her medicine. The medicine made her much much worse and the headaches were worse than ever and she was walking about like a zombie because it was so strong! So she took herself off this medicine and went back to see the doctor who gave her anti depressants which help with sore heads also. But these aren't doing much good either. The doctors don't seem to know what it is and just trying to give her anything. Could this be muscle or nerve related? Really want her to get better and enjoy out son 100% if the time without feeling c**p, if anyone has anyone advice please help!!

Hi All

I have had these neck and head pains for almost 2 years. Recently I have decided to do something about it as was effecting my work.

I had a an MRI scan on my shoulder and neck. This revealed that I had slightly weak neck discs and that there was an impingement on my shoulder which was quite severe. I needed surgery to repair my Rotar cuff (shoulder joint) and to remove excess bone which was created by my bones grinding agianst each other and that once that is fixed my neck issue should heal itself.

Currently I am going through Physio to build up strength in my arm. the reason I ended up with neck pain was because I was using my neck muscles to lift things up. I was unabel to use my arm muscles because of my sholder impingement. the purpose of the physio is retrain my arm to use the correct muscles for lifting. its a long process to full recover (6months) but it is definately worth it.

I can see improvements as mt neck pains are not so severe.

Further I suffer from travel sickness which causes dizziness as well - this was due to my ear drums being perforated which I am going to s epcialist about

UGH. Waking up with a sore back or neck is the worst. Throws off the whole day. Thankfully there is Recovazon – no chemicals, just good old-fashioned Mother Nature helping us out with the pain relief we need to get through the day.

Wow, thanks for this post. This is EXACTLY what I'm going through. Weak neck, head feels to heavy, dizzy spells, sometimes dizzy all day... not dizzy like room is spinning but as though i've gotten off being on a boat all day or am trying to stand after being spun around. My motor skils aren't as flash - I'm clumbsy, drop things alot now. I feel spaced out or glassy, eyes not focusing that well and I have great vision. Feel nauseas at times. Lying down helps but its still there when I get up. Driving my kids round is scary, but they need to get to school, I hit the curb this week and very nearly had an accident aswell. I can't concentrate properly and can't even recall the last thought I had, I'm nodding when people are talking but just feel zoned out. This has been going on for exactly 1 week now, not long but its frickin annoying. Been to dr twice already. We are trying to rule things out before I go spend hundereds at a specialist and test for vertigo or labrynthitis. Ruling out blood sugar levels with a blood glucose home kit, been given antiinflammitorys for neck muscles.
Im 29yr old female, 2kids, no major health issues except that im usually anaemic due to heavy periods, and have sinusitis. Yeah, i have my normal stresses and probably do get mildly anxious about things but nothing major. I'm an artist so am always working with my hands up on the easel and sometimes find myself in awkward positions like a hairdresser bends to the left and right, and I also spend most evenings on the computer. Im tall and do slouch but I wouldn't say my posture is really poor. I will keep checking this thread to see if anyone has more info. I don't have alot of money to spend on healthcare esp after reading this thread - after all these tests there is not much info on how to get rid of this. I will post if I find anything... All the best to you heavy head sufferrers. - Paula.

I just wanted to post one more thing... just an errand thought but in the past few months I have switched to artificial sweetner with coffee etc.... I know its not good for me. But maybe ready about it, apart from heavy head it does seem to cause all the other symptoms were all having here....
Artifical Sweeteners Sickness - Aspartame Disease An Ignored Epidemic
The food and beverage industry is increasingly replacing sugar or corn syrup with artificial sweeteners in a range of products traditionally containing sugar. Sold commercially under names like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Equal-Measure and Canderel, aspartame can be found in more than 6,000 products. "Aspartame (NutraSweet) appears to cause slow, silent damage in those unfortunate enough to not have immediate reactions and a reason to avoid it. It may take one year, five years, 10 years, or 40 years, but it seems to cause some reversible and some irreversible changes in health over long-term use. "Aspartame has a profound effect on mood and cognition....depressed mood, anxiety, dizziness, panic attacks, nausea, irritability, impairment of memory and concentration." Ralph Walton, M.D.

Might make us think twice....

Just a quick update. Since my last post I have been seeing an osteopath who has given me some neck muscle stretches as homework. I wanted to read more about stretching so did some "Googling" and found several articles about the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscles. Apparently if this muscle is too tight it can lead to strange sensations including dizziness. Subsequently if I have felt my heading starting to come "ON" I have been able to perform some simple stretched for these muscles, as well as those at the back of my neck and generally the migraine effect has subsided.

This is very much work-in-progress (as all my previous theories have failed to date) - but so far so good and it has a sounder rationale than most to date.

I am thankful to find this blog! For over a year-  I have been suffering from burning in the back of the head/neck, dizziness, soreness. Sometimes this is occurring at random- with no warning, sometimes I feel it starting. It starts with a feeling of tingling (as if skin crawling) in the back of the head/neck, then it starts burning at the base of the skull. I begin to get a cold sweat and clammy hands. My husband says my eyes glass over and my whole body turns hot and tingly. I would even get the dizziness when lying down. It has affected my job, and my family life to the point I could not even eat, without being dizzy. I began feeling hopeless and depression was setting in horribly.

I have seen doctor after doctor and I have done every test imaginable. I have been to the hospital, they thought possible TIA, Migraine...and the list goes on...This has done nothing for me. I was beginning to feel like I was mental and going crazy. I was being treated as if a hypochondriact. I was told by 2 Neuro's that is was anxiety...Are you kidding??? I am having anxiety because I have no answers!!!!!

I had symptoms of a heart attack as was sent to the ER. They found nothing, so they refered me to a Cardiologist. Dr. Patel did all of the stress test stuff, etc. He did find I have MVP and a small hole in the heart. But he was intrigued when I was describing the issue of the neck and burning and dizziness. He decided to try somethig to help me...

Dr. Patel prescribed Neutontin (300mg x 2 day). He thought maybe it was something that can't be seen on MRI, CT, etc. like nerve damage from a wreck I had in 2006. I was skeptical of this, as I had been given everything and every medicine under the sun to no avail. So I had the prescription filled and took it later that afternoon.

For the first time that night I slept all night without the feeling. The next day I had a small amount of tingling and dizziness but felt better overall. I was able to eat with my family I have been on the Neurontin for about a month now. I am still going through adjusting the strength, but it has made a world of difference!

Today I am dizzy again, but I have called the Primary- may be time to up the strength like they said I may have to until we find the majic dose. The FDA says you can take up to 3600mg a day! Holy Cow that is allt, but if it works I will!

As I read your file and it look like you have herniation to your neck your doctor is not telling you , pinched nerves will make neck nerves weak and make you head heavy for your neck , get anothe openion or go back to doctro and demand neck surgery , you are to young to have degenerative discs , it mean they are compressed by injury to neck spinal discs . I am going though the same thing and doctor now of days don`t seem to care , put your foot down and see if you can get suegery , before your spinal nerves get damaged by constant pinching .
