I've got same problem, dizzines and all and my neck use to hurt a lot (back/neck), and it cracks all the time in what ever direction I want, I know that actualy makes it worse, I've read somewhere, but I cant help myself doing that because it feels better for a moment...I wanted to say that exercise definetely helps, whenever I do my neck I get better for few days, try to find one of those neck machines at the Gym, I use to do it leaning on a wall and pushing but I think that was one of the reasons that I have this problem so I wouldn't recomend that but machine definitely helps and work all your sides..my neck was much smaller then rest of the body that's why i started to do neck exercise but sometimes I pushed myself too much and that probably caused it.... I'm into bodybuilding and martial arts and this condition is really frustrating...
you all should try to get your neck stronger, I think weak neck is the main problem for most of us and then our cervical spine is taking all the stress...

Guys,
I have the stiff neck/weakness/diziness problem from quite a few days. My problems worsens towards the end of the day. Sometimes I feel my eyes wil just pop out. My brother who is parctising medicine suggested that those could be symptoms of chronic stress. He suggested yoga and other forms relaxation which will greatly help manging stress and depression. I suffer from depression too, am just too depressed to do anything about it.
Putting his thoughts across to you guys, hoping it helps you. It really helps to see your posts, because not many make sense of this problem. They say a good night's sleep will help. That is not true for me.
Thanks!

Ditto most symptoms: Very heavy head, weak neck. Stiff. My head feels like a bowling ball that my neck can't support, even when I lie down, which I think is odd. Have had wicked pinched nerve behind my ear radiating various places that was mis-diagnosed as Torticollis at the emergency room. Shoulder blades ache. Computer & reading makes all this worse...
How 'bout we try to identify some common items that may contribute to our problem? From my end:
1) General: I'm female, age 40. Average height (5'6") and 112 pounds. German/Italian descent (all irrelevant, I think)
2) Posture: *** Forward neck posture*** Perhaps b/c I've always been far-sighted & read a lot as a kid (leaning forward to read), Also grew early (stopped growing in 5th grade) & "developed" a robust female figure at a young age - so I slouched. I have since spent hours hunched over a laptop w/ my neck straining forward... I mention all these factores contributing to forward neck b/c I wonder if that posture isn't the primary cause of my problems?
3) Sleep: stomach sleeper, eventually rolling to side or back. Wonder if you all do same? Not ideal. Also, lifelong insomniac but better lately so probably irrelevant.
4) Mental: historically stressed bad but not lately so I'm ruling out anxiety/stress as a factor for me.
5) Drugs: nada. Was on 20mg of Adderall for awhile for ADD.
6) Diet/Exercise/Physical: nothing noteworthy. I'm a fair-weather vegetarian & regular wine drinker. Former runner & gym rat but moderate exercise now. Just had battery of usual tests which show no vitamin deficiencies, no dehydration, no infection... Always low blood pressure; always a tad deficient in iron; all tests relatively normal.
7) Family history: dad & sis have had back issues (disc issues- herniated &/or "slipped," I believe?) general older-age heart issues; several cousins with MS; arthritis in grandmas. Nothing obviously noteworthy.
OTHER: some of you mention ear or dental issues. I think I've started grinding my teeth while sleeping in the last couple of years but can't think of anything else.
Of course, this info may be ridiculously irrelevant but if any of you share any of the more idiosyncratic items above, perhaps we can hone in on some causal factors & go from there.
Frankly, at this point, if someone told me it would help to stand on my head and bark like a dog, I would do it. My head/neck are killing me just trying to post this.
Lastly, historically, I read posts but don't post anything myself. In this case, I'd like to encourage everyone reading this to post what they experience, what they know or suspect. Perhaps the info will get the attention of a medical professional who can help us figure this out. This is truly hindering our everyday functions &, I don't know about you, but I'm too busy for this s!#t.
Best to all of you...

Hi Guys,
I remember reading these posts a couple of years ago when I had the same things happen to me. It turned my life upside down. I literally couldn't get out of bed, my head was so heavy. An encouraging note to all of you out there is that I am feeling a TON better. I was diagnosed with a severe TMJ issue. I have a ton of dental work which would explain it. I have been grinding and clenching since I was a little girl. I am still dealing with it now and have some insomnia pretty regularly BUT I found a great dentist who made me a really good nightguard and that has taken pressure of my jaw which caused all my neck and shoulder pain. It's crazy what your jaw can cause. When I was getting my bite adjusted earlier this year, a difference of a millimeter on my bite caused my leg on one side to get shorter! It makes sense though because if you are grinding and your muscles are tight or if your bite is off, it will throw off you entire spinal alignment. Hopefully, my bite will be adjusted in a couple months after my jaw muscles have been fully relaxed and everything has healed up.
I wish everyone the best of luck. Don't give up. Find a good TMJ specialist and I'm telling you most of the problems on the board are related to that.
Take care!

It actually can be related to your depression. I suffered from severe depression for 10 years and it can manifest physical problems. Depression is more than just feeling down, your whole body, emotional status and soul suffers in real ways.
You could try to address your depression. I do not recommend antidepressant drugs, because they only treat the "physical" part of your depression. Your soul and emotional status will stay depressed, and the drugs would probably exaggerate your fogginess anyway.
Do you have a support group of friends, family, or church? That's the best thing to do! Pray, take care of your physical needs and make sure you draw strength from people that you know love you.
God Bless, and take care :D

wow i thought i was the only one that suffers from this.every time i went to emergency cause i thought i was having a stroke they send me home with no answers.dizziness, sometimes when i get an episode, numbness in arm face, affects my eyes.balance is out i cannot stand on one leg with eyes closed.been to neurologist, neuro surgeons had the injections in back of neck etc etc.scary when it happens, ringing in ears pain which then causes anxiety etc.affects my everyday life as well.what i am learning is possibly i have "burs on my vertabrae which irratate the neck muscles.then in turn they become inflamed and either a) push on arteries or blood vessels and cause a blood restriction to brain or b)inflamtion pinches a nerve or vertabrae pinching a nerve giving these symptons,or both.i have been very discouraged and was worried people thinking i was imagining it or being a hypochondriact or something.i did have a bad car accident about 15 years ago and suffered dizziness for about a year and went to a phsio specialist and he snapped my neck saying i had a twisted vertabrae inmy neck causing blood restriction.it went a way but when it came back i could crack my neck and it would go away.then out of no where 2 years ago surfaced again with more severe symptons.suffered for a year and a half then kinda went away again till 2 months ago after golfing for 3 days.still working on it waiting for mr angiogram and mri so ill keep an update however may take a year to get in lol..love the medical system in canada.

Wow, I also was beginning to think I was going crazy because nobody was able to help me. I have had the exact same problems since I was a senior in high school (I am now in my 5th year of college). I have been through so many tests that I probably will miss something, but here goes anyway: ENT specialist, osteopathic specialist, chiropractor, physical therapy, endocrinologist, neurologist, sleep study, stress test on my heart, holter monitor, x-ray of my neck, MRI, CT scan, limes disease blood testing, regular blood testing and some homeopathic therapy. I know I probably forgot something, but I have found nothing that will take away my symptoms all together. I have been on so many different medications over the years, but I found that effexor xr alleviates SOME of the symptoms (so that I can go to work and finish school and such).
After trying all of these things my primary has run out of ideas, so I have been doing a LOT of research of my own. I have come to the conclusion that it is anxiety/depression. When I went to see a physical therapist they told me that my neck was VERY tight, but I could not seem to relax it at all so i tried a muscle relaxant. They explained to me that from improper posture I can crush my cerebellum (the balance center), but I simply could not relax my neck muscles enough to continue with the PT. I am assuming that the neck muscle tension is caused because of the anxiety because it is common for people to carry their stress/anxiety in their backs/necks. The anxiety is causing my muscle tension, causing the dizziness and heavyness. I have come to the conclusion that in order to cure this I need to talk to a psychologist that can help me relax and get over my anxiety.
One thing that I also have noticed that nobody else has mentioned is that when I participate in physical activity or when I drink caffeine I notice that the symptoms get worse. This is why I asked for the testing on my heart, but everything looked fine when I had the stress test done. I know from doing research that people with anxiety tend to breath faster and I thought that maybe this was also contributing to the feeling of dizziness. Does anybody have any other suggestions that I have not tried yet?
Oh, and I also don;t have any health insurance right now either so I am really having a difficult time with even paying for testing or dr. visits. I am at a loss...help????

I've read right through this long post and lots of the symptoms sound very familiar to me. Two years ago I got a stiff neck, closely followed by aching across the shoulders and a feeling that my head was too heavy. I now have aching in all my limbs after the mildest of exercise, along with other pains that come and go.
GP sent me to Physio, she sent me to a neurosurgeon, he did an MRI then sent me back to physio but, two years later we were no further on. I tried a Pain Management consultant who suggested a few things, including the cervical injections others have mentioned but, before going there, we thought we would try a Neorologist. He did a brain scan, blood tests, nerve conduction tests and tests on my muscles - all normal EXCEPT - my Vitamin D level was through the floor!
I live in the hills of northern England and can't remember the last time I saw a lot of sun, so I am now taking Vitamin D supplements.
Google Vitamin D deficiency and see how the symptoms fit.
I'm not better yet; it's early days. But it's the first glimmer of hope I have had. I'll let you know how I get on.
Just a bit annoyed with my GP who said "Oh that's really common." So why was I not tested two years ago?!?
