I also went to the range today to re-qualifiy for my CCW. My Ear muffs broke trying to adjust the clamping pressure so I decided to just go with the foam ear plugs. Normally I use both. Bad call. During the close in target shooting drill, the foamies must have wiggled loose because I lost a good 40% db level in both ears with 20%+ distortion in both ears with only 5 shots from my .40 auto. Went to the ER and the doc said there was no puncture or damage to either drums. Said I could expect normal hearing to return in 48 hours or so. Moral of the story? Double up on ear protection or don't shoot at all!
