I keep hearing that athletes need more protein in their diet. While that may be true for bodybuilders and weight lifters I don’t think the rest of us have to shovel down tons of stakes, eggs, fish and other protein source. After all we are not going to develop huge muscles, are we? What do you think about proteins and amino acids for long distance cyclists?

Although your primary goal is not to build large muscle mass it definitely isn’t losing the one you have. And this is going to happen with insufficient protein intake. You have to know that protein is a building block of our body. Everything in our body is made of various combinations of amino acids. Muscles, bones, hormones, blood...everything. Without sufficient protein we would die. You don’t have to take the amounts bodybuilders do but you can benefit from adding a certain amount of protein and essential amino acids to your diet. You may consider some 90% whey protein isolate along with BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids). Coupled with good workouts they will give you a solid foundation to build a healthy, strong, and fit body capable of achieving top results in every sport discipline.
