--Vegetarians do not live longer. This myth stems from the fact that vegetarians tend to be more health conscious than the general population, eating a balanced diet, exercising more, and smoking less. When a peer-reviewed Apr. 11, 2005 study from the German Cancer Research Center compared health conscious meat eaters with vegetarians, there was no difference in overall mortality rates. [56]

--Humans have been eating meat for 2.3 million years [14], and it has been an essential part of our evolution. The inclusion of meat in the ancestral diet provided a dense form of nutrients and protein that, when combined with high-calorie low-nutrient carbohydrates such as roots, allowed us to develop our large brains and intelligence. [63] Evidence shows our taste buds evolved to crave meat's savory flavor. [57]

---Vegetarian diets are not necessarily better for the environment. About 90% of US cropland suffers from top soil loss at 13 times the sustainable rate. [42] 92% of US soybeans (a vegetarian staple protein) are planted with genetically modified soy immune to herbicides. [43] This immunity allows soy farmers to douse their fields with large quantities of weed-killing herbicides which endanger the environment and are toxic to other plants and fish. Some scientists worry that increased herbicide use could create "super weeds." [44]

---Processed vegetarian protein options such as tofu can cause more greenhouse gas pollution than farming meat. A 2010 report from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) found that the production of soy-based proteins such as tofu could contribute more to greenhouse gas emissions than eating locally produced meat. [16] According to a peer-reviewed 2009 study, giving up all animal products would only give a 7% reduction in green house gas emissions [106] - not enough to be worth the dietary sacrifice.

----Becoming vegetarian will not help alleviate world hunger. The 925 million [105] people in chronic hunger worldwide are not hungry because people in wealthy countries eat too much meat. The problem is one of economics and distribution.  According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the world "currently produces enough food for everybody, but many people do not have access to it." [108]

----Vegetarian diets can cause the death of animals too.  According to a 2003 study [118] by Steven Davis at Oregon State University, about 6 animals per acre, or 52-77% of the animals (such as birds, mice, and rabbits) that live in agricultural crop fields are killed during harvest.

·  Meat is the most convenient protein source since it provides all 10 essential proteins (amino acids), as well as essential nutrients such as iron, zinc, and the B vitamins, in one serving. [61] Most individual plant foods do not provide adequate levels of all 10 essential proteins in a single serving.

·  Eating meat provides a better source of iron than a vegetarian diet. The body absorbs 15% to 35% of the heme iron in meat, but only absorbs 2% to 20% of the non-heme iron found in vegetarian sources like leafy greens and beans. [3]

·  Eating meat provides healthy saturated fats which strengthen the immune and nervous systems and contain vitamins A, D, E and K. [59] Saturated fats are also essential for building and maintaining cell health, and help the body absorb calcium. Cholesterol from animal fat is needed for proper function of serotonin receptors in the brain. Low cholesterol levels have been linked to depression. [101]

Your comments about carbohydrates are inaccurate, misleading and laughable. Protein? Human mother's milk is less than 5% protein and that milk provides more than enough protein for the development of the human brain at it's most critical time. Again, you are wrong.

Fat? The human body does not need fat more than any other nutrient. No nutrient is any more important than all of the total nutrients a human consumes.

Your response is just pure folly. Consider researching basic facts about nutrition before you share your false opinions. Talk about pure garbage.

Eat meat? All carnivores don't chew meat, they tear and swallow it raw. Humans have the ability to eat meat, but it takes up to 7 times longer to digest than vegetables and leaves the body in an acid state.

How does the body get the PH level back to alkaline? It leaches calcium from bones. Is eating meat good for the body? Technically, animal products produce a acid residue in the body which causes chronic disease.

We can solve the health care crises in the US with one word. FIBER!! Seriously, do some unbiased research and look what foods contain fiber. No animal products contain fiber. Where does the nutrient value come from regarding animals? The plants they eat. The only problem that the nutrients are encased in fat and cholesterol.

Do yourself a favor, eat plants directly (fruits and Veggies).

Yes yes. I have often heard about "self-righteous vegetarians" preaching but never, EVER have I observed one. I'm a veggie and I DO NOT judge others but I have has so many experiences like the one you describe above. I can hardly sit down to a meal with acquaintances before they notice there is not meat on my plate and ask if I am vegetarian. When I reply in the affirmative, I am literally verbally attacked by people trying to show me the error of my choice. It's gotten so that I simply say " I just don't feel like eating meat today."

I have to do a project on this for school, and all the arguments for vegetarianism can easily be counteracted as well. When people say that animals are killed inhumanely, then the people killing them are doing something against the law (at least in the US it is). The Humane Slaughter Act of (I'm pretty sure this is the year) 1958 makes it so that you can get serious jail time for killing the animals inhumanely.

This is mostly opinion, but it's true. According to some people we have evolved into what we are now, and we have the teeth to eat meat. Many herbivores CAN'T eat meat because they don't have the teeth to do it. If we weren't supposed to eat meat, then we wouldn't be capable of it.

Its also said that you can get all your needed nutrients from other places, and while this is true, there are substitutes, its also unhealthy in a way. Our body uses ANIMAL fat in a different way then it uses other fats, and without animal fat we cannot function the same.

Being a vegetarian doesn't mean that they are healthier for not eating meat, vegetarians make different choices outside of not eating meat that help with their lifestyle. They eat healthier not because they don't eat meat, but because they choose to eat healthy substitutes for OTHER foods outside of meat. A lot of people who eat meat don't try to live healthy, they don't care. And a lot of people who DO eat meat are extremely healthy! If people chose to have a balanced diet then they'd do better.

We don't get 'overdosed' with protein by eating meat. We get too much protein from eating to MUCH meat. If we were to eat the suggested serving size for our diets then we wouldn't be getting too much protein...

Many vegetarians also say that the animals aren't treated well outside of how they are killed. But this isn't true either. Farmers and  companies are held to the same rules as pet owners are held too. If they aren't treating the animals right they can have a serious problem and could go to jail.

And when people say that the animals are killed while they are alive, I'll give you that. It's true, they are alive. But they are knocked out cold, they aren't going to feel it. I've had to watch a video of how they kill cows, and while its not pretty, its as humane as its going to get. And having the animal alive when it's bled out is necessary as of this point in time. It cows were to be killed like we put a dog down, we'd have a lo more people dead because of it. You can't get rid of all of that injection, if we were to eat a dog that had been put down we'd be killed. The substance would put US down.

I'm not a vegetarian but I'm not going to not approve of your choice. If you wanna be a vegetarian then go for it! I won't stop you and I won't tell you you're wrong! its a personal choice and nothing I say will change your mind. Just make sure you know that it's illegal to be cruel to animals and slaughter then inhumanely.

Just respect me for my choice and don't shove your beliefs down my throat. You may think its inhumane and you can think that, but there are laws and facts that will prove you wrong.

Just respect other people's opinions, it's all you really owe them.

Well, the simplest argument, for me not becoming a vegetarian, is "I like meat."

Well, I am a vegetarian for more than 10 years. I don’t think meat is essential to live healthy. Yes, meat is rich in proteins but there are lots of vegetables which have high protein amounts than meat. If you add soy beans, cauliflower, peanuts and almonds to your meal you don’t have to worry about your daily protein requirement. Also fresh fruits can fulfill your vitamin and mineral requirements. It is possible to live healthier without eating meat.

"Another problem with vegetarianism, and especially veganism, is that it tends to be low in fat. The human body absolutely needs fat more than any other nutrient, and yet vegetarian culture (and mainstream nutrition for that matter) seems to hate fat. On top of that, the fat that vegetarians tend to eat, like soybean and canola oil, is completely unhealthy to the human body - we did not evolve to eat this highly manufactured, unnatural garbage"
