My grandfather suffered from a condition called fibrillation. I have no idea what it is, only that it has something to do with his heart. Now, the doctors are going to implant into his chest a device called defibrillator. Can you explain to me these two meanings? Thank you

Fibrillation is when the heart beats irregularly or fast because of the irregular electronic discharges that contract the heart muscles. The defibrillator is used to prevent fibrillation from occurring again. The defibrillator is a device that monitors heart’s rate. It uses batteries to send electric signals to a heart. Newer devices have other functions as well like storaging of detected arrhythmic events and the ability to do noninvasive electrophysiologic testing. There, I hope I helped a bit!
