I would like to lose some 10 pounds maybe more. I heard something about caloric deficit. I am not sure what it is and how much I can eat. I am confused since I keep reading that all that matters is number of calories. Then some other experts claim that the food structure is more important. I would appreciate any help.

They are both right. It is called a “Unified Theory”. It means that number of calories matters but where do the calories come from is also important. To lose one pound of fat you need to create caloric deficit of 3,500 calories. It means that you either have to burn more than you eat or eat less than you burn. If you space it throughout a week it would mean that you have to eat less/burn 500 calories a day. To lose 10 pounds you have to go on like this for 10 weeks.
