Chlamydia is a common sexual transmitted disease or STD and it is caused by a bacteria. It shares equal rates between men and women. An estimated 3 million people between the ages of 15 and 40 are newly infected in the U.S. each year.
It is passed thru sexual activity/intercourse..(vaginally-orally-anally) The more partners, the greater the risk. Teen age girls and younger females are at a greater risk due to the immaturity of the cervix.
It does not discriminate. Male to female, male to male and female to female..
It is known as the silent disease, many times with little to no symptoms. Less than25% of infected females and less than 50% of infected males show no signs of it.
If symptoms do appear, it's about 1 to 3 weeks after exposure.
In females, the most common symptoms are, abnormal vaginal discharge, burning upon urination, pelvic pain, lower back pain, nausea, fever, pain during intercourse and irregular periods.
In males the symptoms could be, discharge from the penis, burning upon urination, burning and itching of the urethral opening (pee hole) and pain and swelling of the testicles.
Persons can also be infected in the rectum, presenting rectal bleeding, discharge and pain.
For a female, it can infect the urinary tract and also the reproductive system, causing possible infertility. In a man, in can infect the tubes that carries the sperm, causing pain and fever, and tho rare for the male, infertility.

To find out if a women is infertile, she must be tested. If constant attempts at conception fail, there are several tests to determine the cause of her infertility. If the problem lies with being infected with this disease, the doctor will know for sure. This STD can be successfully treated with antibiotics. It isn't transmitted thru kissing.
