Hi, I am very curious. A friend of mine trains capoeira. At first I had no idea what that is, but then I found out. Of course the friend that trains it explained something. It all sounds very interesting but one thing confuses me and I need the answer to it. What's capoeira good for?

Hi, capoeira is for a lot of people a very interesting "game". I do not share their opinion. You see, it is much more then that. Capoeira is actually a fight dance. It was created by the Africans that were brought from Africa to Brazil. It can benefit you in many ways. It is a complete workout program. First of all, you develop coordination and endurance. Since it is also a sort of a martial art, you learn the "moves" that are equal to the ones learned in karate or kick boxing. Aerobic exercise is also another thing provided by this sport. So there you have it. Capoeira is a complete workout program in one sport.

Hi, capoeira sound rely nice. I had no chance of trying it, but will try it one day for sore. I'm wondering, what is the best age to start practicing capoeira? And what is the 'deadline' (how oldest you can get) to start practicing capoeira?

Capoeira is suitable for any age and any fitness level. If you are just starting out, you should definately go and watch a class first, then make an informed decision. A beginner's class would be great for anyone. Anyone can learn it and just like yoga, don't be afraid of starting something new. You may find that you just love it and before long are teaching a class of your own.

I was watching capoeria on TV few days ago, and I was so amazed what they can do. It's seems like they are not from this planet. :-) Now I'm really really planing on finding some time to practice it. I was planing of finding some video about beginnings and practice it at home. Does anybody knows a good video for this?

I think a good free place to start and get your foundation would be to check out YouTube. That's where i got started on yoga and it was great because all of the information was free and I didn't even have to wait for some DVD to come through the mail before I could start practicing. I think that you should try searching for it at YouTube and get started practicing. Just make sure you have a lot of open space!

And that is what I will do. Youtube might be just enough for me. I do a little exercises, nothing to much, just to stay fit. And I think that I won't be able to do capoeria that good, but i will give it a shot. Has anybody her tried copoeria?

I forgot to mention actually that I have tried capoeira. It's gonna wear you out the first few times you do it! It's a very demanding art, and you really have to put yourself fully into it. Like I said, it's also a good idea to make sure that you have a lot of space to practice in. It takes your whole body. It's sort of like doing kettlebells or something similar which takes your entire body to perform. Anyway, keep me posted on your first capoeira experience! :-)

Hi, I have tried it last week and it didn't go so well. Didn't have too much space in my room, and I hit my legs few times. Nothing serious but also not pleasant. :-) Maybe the best thing for me if I want to try capoeira is to find a club and train there. Does anyone else has similar experience?

That's really funny that you ended up hurting yourself! I hope that you're okay, but I wondered if it was going to happen since you're probably in a small house or apartment. To be honest, I took my laptop out to the park and practiced there. I live in a city where they put wifi in the parks so I was able to practice. If you can't, then I guess you're stuck at home!

Well i am stuck at my home. It is very interesting idea to go to park with a laptop and practice. I'm ok now, and injury was very small. Just two bruises. But they are gone by now. Well I have to say that i have stopped with the idea of practicing copoeria for now. If I move to bigger place, than will consider it again. Does anybody else has any experience?

Capoeira and yoga are to different things. Capoeira is a community are and practicing it alone in your house will only get you so far. You need to join a group, be around others learn the songs learn to play the instruments. Get inside the roda and feel the axé to get the most out of the art.
