When a woman is ovulating, an egg has been released from her egg sack, down into the filopian tube, then down into the uterus. This usually lasts around 48 hours.

Most women are fertile, or in the time period where they're most likely to get pregnant, beginning 72 hours before she ovulates until the time when her ovulation ends. The fertile period begins three days before ovulation because sperm can last in the uterus for up to that amount of time.
