I had gallstone pain beginning 8 years ago. I had no health insurance, and many trips to the ER for 2 years. My labs were always normal, so they would never do an ultrasound for me. I was always referred to a surgeon, and of course could not afford to go. One trip they gave me smooth muscle relaxers, told me to take one when I had a attack. They helped. I took them only when I had an active attack for 6 month, and then I stayed symptom free for the last 6 years until I started having pain and nausea 2 weeks ago. I had surgery 3 days ago and I already feel better than I have in years. You do always have the risk of it becoming infected or you having liver damage if the bile can not drain and starts to back up, but people can a do go a LONG time without pain.
