I am constantly searching for answers or treatments for type 2 diabetes. There must be answers out there somewhere? That's a question I often asked myself but I feel the answers are within ourselves :)
We all have different nutritional needs and therefore need to adjust accordingly. Recently I discovered (thru neglect) that ice cream stabilzes my blood sugar. Why? Beings one of the ingredients is sugar -- shouldn't it offer sugar spikes? Well after searching for nights on end I discovered that a major discussion of adding whey protein was beneficial. I'm guessing that the ingredients in ice cream is whey or the fat somehow is needed. As long as I don't over consume it I don't gain any weight -- again there's the moderation technique we all hear about so much. I eat everything in moderation and I mean everything :) My blood sugars are now near normal. I hope to be off of the meds soon. I'm currently taking glipizide and metformin. Low doses of each but twice a day. At times my sugar lowers to 80 -- talk about scary? I would much rather "diet" and lose the weight than die of complications of medicine. I noticed that the more weight I lose the lower my sugar plunges. Will whey protein help in weight management? Is it safe for diabetics? Why does my sugar stabilize when I add more protein to my diet -- especially eggs and I don't gain a pound. I actually lose a few here and there. I also eat more leafy green vegetables and oatmeal everyday. I don't use any sugar substitutes and if I want something sweet -- I eat it in moderation with no ill effects. I was wondering if I should discuss ending the meds when I go back for a doctor visit? I'm definitely changing my eating habits and just wondering what to do next.
