HI,
Im 17 now and got my tonsils taken out last tuesday. Im on day 9 and so far everything has been ok.
Day 1 of the surgery, the worst part was getting the IV in!! I was able to talk a little bit right away and drink water.
Day 2 I was feeling awesome..getting up walking around talking.
Day 3 went downhill. I got nausiated and was dry heaving. I couldnt puke but it sucked so i slept all day.
Day 4 -6 went good. As long as i took 3 tsp of pain killer every four hours I was fine.
Day 7 I was super fatigue and slept all day. Also had really bad headache
Day 8-9 Apprently I started to get bad breath according to my boyfriend so this is when your tonsils are really scabbing up and I can tell because its like hard in the back of my throat. Also the dangling thingy isnt as swollen anymore so it doesnt feel like your swallowing the dam thing. Also notice I have this terrible taste in my mouth. Probably the tonsils.
All what iv been eating was popsicles, yogurt, pudding, icecream, jello, shakes, and soup. Be careful the soup doesnt have too much salt otherwise it will dry your throat. Day 2 I tried eating mac N Cheese and that was a bad idea because alot of it got stuck in the "Caves" where the tonsils used to be.
Pros: Lose weight!!! I lost 6 pounds ha yay.
Wont be getting strep throat 8 times in a 6 months time frame anymore.
Will be able to sleep better. Makes you breath better.
Cons: DONT BURP WITH YOUR MOUTH CLOSED. That hurts sooo much.
Try to drink as much as possible through the night. Mornings are painful!!!
Careful to not eat something too hot. It will hurt.
Dont cough too hard, that will also hurt.
Dont scream
You will have alot of mucus. At least I did and I choke on it every night.
Be careful while drinking and eating. Dont want it to go in the wrong pipe making you caugh really hard. That did not feel too good.
That was my first surgery and I was terrified. You will get through it! If I can do it then I know anyone can.
Good Luck!!!<3

I have had my operation two weeks ago. The pain I have sustained through this ordeal has been indescribable. I have difficult typing as I am both shaking from the pain and drowsy from my pain medicine. I thought I was going to die. I work as a backsmith and once had my left bollock smashed between an anvil an an iron hammer. If I had a choice I would rather have my right bollock hammered on the anvil than experience have the pain I have gone through with the tonsillectomy.

Guys I am from South Africa, im really not sure how it happens over in America or Europe. I am 20 and had my tonsils out while they were still inflamed. Surgery took roughly 25mins, i woke up gave the thumbs up and went back to sleep for a few hours. I stayed the night in hospital with a drip in me for fluids and pain.. I was told by the doctor to drink lots of fizzy coldink (coke etc) cause the bubbles help clean the cuts. I was then told to chew chewing gum and biltong (jerky) as soon as i could to get my muscles working again (were really stiff).. They brought me chips and biscuits as they are hard, and before i was allowed to leave in the morning i had to eat 2 slices of toast.. So i was immediatley onto hard foods, as opposed to other countries where you get jelly and custard.. i was taking pain killers, but still. This worked REALLY well, i never felt anything close to a scab forming or coming off.. My mouth was the normal white colour at the back, but as soon as that dissapeard after a week or so, it was healed! :) Trust me tonsilitis where you cant swallow your own saliva is a worse pain than a tonsilectomy. It will hurt im not saying it wont.. but MOST people are waaaay over reacting. ps TAKE YOUR MEDS EXACTLY AS PERSCRIBED and you will be fine.. i also had a antibacterial spray which i used to spray the area where my tonsils were.. healed me right up. Hope this was helpful, specially to people as nervous as i was!

You must be crazy if you were taking so many chemicals. It can be easily treated with paracetamol and ibuprofen combined with plenty of water, a good diet high in protein, manuka honey and some other immune support supplements.
