My son is almost 2 years old and sometimes when he gets really upset and is crying he will get really quite and it seems that he is holding his breath but actually he has stopped breathing and actually will start to have his lips turn blue. I will have to try and jar him out of it by shaking him or slapping his back and sometimes if it is mild blowing in his face will work. It seems to get harder and harder to get him breathing again each time it happens. Is this something he will grow out of and is there anything I can do to prevent it?

I'm 17 years old right now and i still have this problem, From what i can remember it's been like this since i was 4. It really hasn't raised any concern to me or my family.
though i think it may be a Asthma problem, as i've had it since i was a kid but again it was never anything serious
