Over eight years ago I had my gall bladder removed. Since the surgery, I have constantly belched, day and night, with or without food and I have gained a lot of weight even though I have constantly been on one diet or another. I do not get much sleep because the bloating and belching keep me up. I have to keep moving to relieve some of the bloating. What is causing this? I have been to several doctors and I just get some sort of prescription that does nothing for me but drain my checking account. One doctor who has been the most help told me that because my gall bladder is gone my liver does not produce enough bile to break down the protiens in the foods that I eat so my body stores it. He put me on an herbal supplement that had given me slight relief from a very little bit of the bloating. I am lost. What do I need to do? I have had three doctors tell me that it will go away in time. How much time is it going to take. I seriously wish that I had never had the surgery because I suffer more now than I ever did with my gall bladder.

Well the doctor you said yourself was most helpful actually did give the only explanation that is valid in this case - if there is not enough bile who is necessary in order for you to be able to digest proteins that come mainly from fats, you will get bloating and problems with digestion. I'm sure you have been warned already to avoid heavy and fatty food and eight years is definitely too much time for these symptoms still to be here. I think that next time you see a doctor you will have to be more decisive about the fact that eight years definitely is too much time for this problem to last and probably the best thing would be for you to get reexamined so that they can asses what state your digestive system i is now. Because it's possible that, since this problem lasts for so long, it might have created additional issues with the digestion.

Thank you so much for the information. You have no idea what it means to have someone indicate that this is a problem. My sleep is a thing of the past because of this issue. I have been to bed and slept all that I can since I typed the question this morning. I have been up for over thirty minutes. I normally get between 2 to 4 hours of sleep a night and I farm so there are days that I am in the field for up to 20 hours at a time. That is how I know that not eating does not change this problem. The only time that I get more sleep is if I have been to the doctor for a cold or the flu and the medication they put me on is strong enough to knock me out. The sad thing about this situation is that it was a chiropractor who put me on the herbal supplement and he relocated hundreds of miles away. Now I just have to find a local doctor who will do something for me. Thank you again. I was starting to think that I was losing my mind.
