I've been taking the PrimaCare One's for over a year on and off (I was pregnant in November but had an early m/c, so since then I haven't been very diligent with taking them). I've had issues with acne around my chin and jawline, but I just chaulked that up to being from hormones. Both my dermatologist and my aestetician (for massages and facials) told me that breakouts in that area are hormone related. I also figured it was my body getting adjusted to being off the pill (I was previously on it for 10 years). The only complaint I have as far as side effects go is indegestion. Shortly after I take it, I will burp fish oil (which is one of the ingredients), but it's not so bad for me to quit taking it.
i think another thing you have to consider is general hormonal changes during pregnancy - i have been breaking out while on the vitamins, but i was breaking out like crazy beforehand too - it's natural when you're surging with hormones.
i miss birth control pills and my nice skin!

I am 11 weeks and have been breaking out on my jawline and cheeks for about 6 weeks now...I took a trial pack of PrimaCare in the middle of that time with no noticeable change in my skin changes. I've tried about 4 different Rx prenatals and 1 otc, and I have to say PrimaCare was easy t swallow and stopped my morning sickness while on it. I am definitely going to continue to take PrimaCare - I'll take acne over morning sickness anyday!! :-)
I got red bumps on my cheeks, forehead and chin about three weeks after I started the Primacare vitamins. I thought it was just a breakout from the baby, as I never had acne before I was pregnant. After about a couple more weeks, my bumps on my face started to itch. Have stopped taking the vitamins for about one week, bumps are going away and the itching from my cheeks and chin are gone. I figure it must have been the vitamins.
It is TRUE. Prenatal vitamins can cause cystic acne. My wife went off the pill and started taking prenatals when we were going to try for a baby. She immediately started breaking out in horrible cystic acne along her jaw line. We THOUGHT it was hormonal imbalance from going off the pill. We got pregnant a few months later and though the acne would stop because the pregnancy would simulate the hormone balance from the pill.
Her acne continued to get WORSE until she had cysts all over her face! Into the second trimester and nearly a year after starting the prenatals (and trying EVERYTHING to get rid of the acne), she was in despair. We are born-again Christians and decided to pray for an answer and God revealed that the cause was the prenatals (yes, it is pretty normal for a real Christian to “hear” from God). Then I found blog site after blog site confirming what we now believed. She stopped taking the vitamins and within 3 days all the cystic acne started to dry up. Within a week her skin was smooth again! DO NOT believe any of the nay-sayers who claim that there is nothing wrong with prenatals. There is something in them that wants out through your skin! Stop taking them asap if they are causing acne. I’d recommend an all natural prenatal or another natural vitamin regiment as opposed to the junk doctors prescribe.

I am 12 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby and have always used over the counter prenatal vitamins until this pregnancy and I have a very different experience I LOVE these prenatals!! The stool softener is awesome, I feel like I have way more energy and am not so cranky and also my sickness is going away really fast, that could be because I am getting farther along but everything I have experienced with these vitamins have been great! And in my opinion most of the acne and things are just normal pregnancy problems I have had that with all my pregnancies and never have an issue while I am not pregnant with acne and if you do believe the prenatals are causing that then you should stop taking them, I know there are so many other good prenatals your doctor could tell you about........Good luck to everyone and hope you all have healthy pregnancies!!
I am not pregnant but have been taking prima care one for a few weeks. I am in the midst of a horrible case of acne primarily along my jawline but also on my forehead and nose. The only thing I can trace it to is the vitamins. Not having the pregnancy hormones as the cause, I think it is definately safe to say it is the vitamins. I cant seem to get it under control and have stopped taking them. We'll see if it makes a difference:)
I'm so glad I found this post. I have been breaking out, losing hair, and my gas is a WMD in my house. I stopped Primcare and got back on my generic vitamins this week.
I just wanted to respond to the posts about acne while taking Primacare one.
I took Primacare one throughout the conception process and pregnancy. I experienced acne, but thought nothing of it. After I delivered, I continued to take Primacare one and the acne continued. I finally switched to Prenate DHA, and my acne cleared up within days. I'm still taking Prenate DHA and loving it-- my hair and nails have never been so strong!
I hope this helps!

Hi everyone, I have been reading all of the postings on Primacare one and have to say that my experience with it is okay- I am 4 months along with my 2nd belly now. I do not get morning sickness, it does help with constipation BUT the one huge problem I have is the severe acne I have developed along my forehead, chin, jawline and neck. I never had issues with acne before whether on birth control or during my 1st pregnancy. I wonder if my acne is due to primacare one- I spoke to my obgyn about it and we are going to tyr Prenate DHA. Wish me luck..
i was reading your post and i had been experiencing really bad acne as well along my the bottom of my nose all down and around my chin. it has been driving me nuts! i never broke out like i was when i first started my new primacare prenatal. i hope my unborn baby is ok.
Hello, My skin has also exploded with pimples on my forehead, hairline, and chin. I am not pregnant, but starting taking Primacare One because we are trying to be. I also took them earlier this year and I remember that my face broke out and I stopped taking them (trying to trobleshoot the cause of the pimples). My face cleared up until I started taking them, not remembering the acne because it wasn't as severe as this time. I took them for about three days and the acne was more than I could stand. The skin problem seemed like it was an immediate affect of the vitamin. I have stopped taking them to see the result. My skin has never been this bad even as a teenager. I haven't taken them for two days and notice a small improvement in my skin. I am so glad that I found these posting.
Thanks for your stories!!!

I'm glad to hear that you were at least able to find the source of your acne. I know that it can be a really hard thing to deal with. Did the acne respond to any sort of treatment like perhaps benzoyl peroxide or anything like that? I hope that you are still able to conceive even being off the vitamins. Thanks for letting us know.
Oh, thank the Lord that I found this post! I took an OTC prenatal vitamin for the first 3 months I was pregnant, then switched to a prescription. I had always battled mild hormonal acne, so I figured I would be one of the unlucky ones who would have an awful face during pregnancy. Oddly enough, for the first 3 months my skin looked great, barely a breakout! After the 3rd month, however, I developed cystic acne all over my chin and hairline and little baby acne all over the rest of my face. It looked like a rash and I couldn't control it. I thought it was due to a shift in hormones in the 2nd trimester, but everyone says this is when acne usually begins to clear slightly. After googling and reading this post, I decided to switch back to my natural OTC vitamin. So far, it seems to be helping tremendously!! Oddly enough, I also became allergic to my white gold wedding bands after 3 months. Maybe I will try those back on after awhile and see if that too was caused by my vitamin. Hoping the solution is as simple as this. It's sucky enough that I have to feel big as a house, but to have cystic acne is just more than a woman should have to bear. Good luck to all of you :-D
Hi there, sinc eyou had all that cystic acne, they didn't try to put you on accutane, did they? I know that's not something you should take while you are pregnant. Does that sound right?
