I recently had my surgery on May 22 for internal and external. My majoy issue right now is the discharge, it's clear and has no oder but it make my cheeks and but feel wet all the time. I also have alot of swelling and it looks almost like the hemorrhoids did. And lastly this itching around the area drives me crazy!!!
Bowl movments are not too bad but its after that that the stinging and itching are the worst. Any suggestions? Does this happen for most people? It's been 6 days don't know if that is considered a long time after surgery. I return to work this coming Thursday and would like to know if this will get progressivley better.
Hi leo67, I just had hemorrhoidectomy and prolapse surgery on the 22nd too. I have the discharge but with foul smell. I did go to the docs but he said everything was fine. My pains are really bad all the time. I have stinging during and after a BM. I do wear panty liners and gauze to keep the area dry. Also, you should speak with your surgeon about the itching n discharge. My doc actually is keeping me out for another 3 weeks from work. I am planning on calling him first thing Monday to see if the stinging is normal all day because the stinging just started Yesterday! let me know how everything turns out.
Hello. Thank you for replying. This is August 12th and I have such intense itching, burning, and pins/needle sensations that it is very difficult for me to sit for any length of time and difficult to sleep through the night. It seem the area is always moist also. I have tried everything, tucks, preparation H, Recticare, Americaine, Proctodol-HS 2.5%, baby powder, desitine, suppositories, nothing takes away the intense itching and burning and discomfort. When I went for a follow-up the areas that are bothering me the doctor said were areas they didn't treat because they did not want to created to narrow of an opening a cause future problems. But it seems the treated areas are bothering me also. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO!! I have an appointment tomorrow. I'm afraid they will say I need another surgeryis and I don't know if I trust this doctor to do this again. I had this pain before but not the itching EVERY WHERE all around my bottom including my anus. This sounds horrible I know and it is. If you or anyone has any experience with this or has some advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the late reply leo67. In case you still need help (or someone else does who's reading this thread), it sounds similar to what I experienced. I also developed the itching and burning (though mostly burning). When I used a mirror to look "down there" I had a very definite rash. The doctor said it was likely a yeast rash and to get the cream used for babies or jock itch. The bleeding had stopped by that point and it was only the gooey discharge, so I used gauze pads stuffed between my cheeks to keep the moisture away from the skin. I still have problems occasionally and have to use the ointment. I think it's because it became such a habit of not wiping well with the towel (leaving moisture) and from using baby wipes after a BM (which also leaves moisture) and the fact that I got 3 new external hemorrhoids which makes it even more difficult to be gentle and yet wipe the area till dry.
I had surgery back in Jan. and suffered through itching and burning up until July when I saw a specialist. I had a funal infection. Between the discharge and taking baths to ease pain and it just being a moist area. The specialist recomended lotrimin which I have used and am completely cleared up now. It's nice to live without that constantly bothering you.
It sounds like you may be experiencing some irritation and inflammation in the area where your external hemorrhoid was removed. Itching, moisture, and a rash are all common symptoms in this situation. Here are a few things you can do to help relieve these symptoms:
Keep the area clean and dry: Gently clean the area with mild soap and warm water, and pat it dry with a soft towel. Avoid using rough toilet paper, and consider using moist wipes or a bidet instead.
Apply a soothing ointment or cream: There are over-the-counter creams and ointments that can help relieve itching and inflammation in the anal area. Look for products that contain hydrocortisone or witch hazel.
Use a sitz bath: Soaking in warm water for 10-15 minutes a few times a day can help reduce inflammation and provide relief.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing: Tight clothing can rub against the irritated skin and make symptoms worse. Wear loose-fitting clothing made of breathable fabrics like cotton.
Avoid scratching: Although it can be tempting, scratching can further irritate the skin and cause more itching and inflammation.
That should be enough, but monitor your condition closely. I had similar problem after the surgery and it resolved within a month.
Good luck.
