Hi, im 12 years old and had my tonsils taken out 4-5 days ago. The scabs are already forming making it extremely hard to swallow. I know that its because the scabs are going to come out soon but does it hurt while coming off??? When should I start eating solids???

I am 18 and a male, and I am currently on day 9 and I haven't ate anything. I've eaten a jello and that was it. I am having a very sharp pain on the right side of my throat. When I drink water it feels like I ripped a part of the scab off on the right side and the water is going down that opening and the pain is excruciating and I cannot handle it. I stopped taking my liquid pain med because it does the same thing and go's down that hole. I was wondering what to do. I'm trying to tilt my head and only let it go down the left side but it still manages to go in that hole. I have to force myself to take my antibiotic and it hurts so bad when I do. I don't know what to do about it. And my doctors not free until Wednesday

This has been super helpful to me I'm on day 7 and am still in a lot of pain and can't eat much except soup my scabs fell off on day 4 I think and one of them bled for a minute but new ones formed just a lot thinner then the others... this whole week all I wanted was pizza and probably would of gone a couple more days and then gave in and got some but after reading those stories I think I can wait. Today was the first day I've felt okay but pain medicine, ice, and water saved my life in this situation. I'm 17 and this is a very painful recovery but glad its almost over and that I never have to do this again.

okay, first of all. you should not be eating ANY solid foods after a tonsillectomy. I don't know what your ENT told you,but you are not suppose to eat any solid foods for atleast a week. the scabs fall off days 8-9. I just had mine out 6 days ago. Mine are scabbing now. but you cannot eat solid foods like you use to! you have to completely change your diet if you don't want to bleed to death, and yes it can happen. just stay away from solid foods.

I know this is kinda late on the forum, but I'm on day 7 of recovery and I'm 14, well I freak out too. Now that obviously this being a year ago, were the red dot like things or whatever in your throat normal to have. I'm kind of freaking out. I've already had to spend two nights in the hospital for dehydration, and I've sad enough to say had one incident of bleeding, so apparently I'm freaking out at the red in my throat.

When this happens, you IMMEDIATELY want to go back to the er or call your surgeon to make an appointment to get the tonsil beds re-cauterized!! You cannot let it keep bleeding!! I know this is a bit late to reply to, but just for anyone else's reference who may find their way to this page. If the bleeding does not stop after an hour of really cold ice or water, GO TO THE ER!!! Seriously.

I have a similar problem, like there's a sharp stone or piece of glass lodged into a hole on the right side that hurts when I swallow. Did yours go away? What did you discover?
