Hello! Is there anybody who can tell me more about allograft that is used in a gum surgery? What exactly is it? Thx

Allograft is a tissue transplanted from one person to another who don’t have identical genetic composition. The source is usually cadaver bone, which is available in large amounts. In order to render it neutral to immune reactions, the bone needs to undergo many treatments. They may be irradiation, freeze-drying, acid washing and other chemical treatments. This is also done in order to prevent cross contamination of host diseases. All donors should be pre-scanned for possible diseases. After these treatments the bone is ready for processing, and the possible chance of cross-infection is deduced to minimum.
