Amoxicillin (correctly spelt) is a penicillin antibiotic, commonly used for infections of the middle ear, tonsils, throat, lungs (pneumonia), urinary tract and other. The dosage can vary depending on severity of infection. Amoxicillin can be taken with or without food. It’s important to take amoxicillin until you finish the prescription, even if feeling better. A complete course of antibiotics prevents rheumatic fever by children. If the doctor didn’t perform any test to check whether it is a bacterial infection, there is a chance that your child actually has a viral infection. In that case antibiotics are ineffective.
