extreme perimenopause /menopause symptom

Hi there all,

I am newbie to this forum. I am a 44 year old female that has been told I may be in the throes of menopause or the latter stages of perimenopause,  however I feel like my symptoms are too far on the extreme nature of things to be just that.  All my symptoms started at Christmas when I was very ill to say the least with Bronchial Pnemonia that it caused me to quit smoking cold turkey, I developed what was believed to be withdrawals, then came GI issues, possible IBS to the point of where I am now. I have been experiencing multiple aches/pains, pressure, heaviness and stabbing pains behind eyes, facial twiches, tingling and numbness, heart palpitations and tightness, plugged ears without infection, stomach troubles, stabbing pains under breastbone/sternum and ribcage, burping/gas, crying jags, internal body feels like it's vibrating, adrenaline coursing through veins, went from insomnia to intermittent sleep (waking every 20 minutes) to now only able to get 5-6 hours, excessive yawning and basically now not barely being able to function daily whether it be mentally, emotionally and or physically. I am impaired with one or all multiple times a day or night it's scaring me and making feel there is something going on that's being missed healthwise. In fact, I have become very nervous and health conscience.

I have had roughly 8 ECG's, full panel blood work of everything imaginable  - CBC, ALS/Alt, TSH,T3, T4, Organ enzymes, Vitamin deficiency done (all about about 8 times also), 2 chest xrays, stomach xray, abdominal ultrasound, urine test, eye exam with optometrist, stool samples to check for c difficule, blood and parasites, Hpylori to check for ulcer. What more you could ask right? Well there is more to come and will see an internist in a few months as well.

My abdominal ultrasound did discover a mild fatty liver (NAFLD) and liver enzymes were 2 notches higher than normal, so I changed my diet to accomodate and begin a heal/repair process. I eliminated all processed food products, fast food restaurants, 18% cream in my tea/coffee, refined sugars, glucose, sucrose, corn syrup, molasses, all white products such as flour, bread, pasta, pastries/baked goods, potatos, rice, colors and dyes, deli meats, bacon, sausage, pork, regular hamburger meat, cheese, salt. I instead switched to whole grains and wheat products, increased my fibres, fruit/vegetable daily intake, yogurt, lean meats, brown rice, sweet potatos/yams, etc. Since I am 5'3, I did weigh 160 lbs prior to dietary changes, and since I am down 20 lbs in 2 and a half months.

As I do have a longstanding Hypothyroid condition, my first thought was that my medication which has never changed dose wise was now causing me to have all those outstanding symptoms because of possible overmedicating now due to weight loss/diet changes, but apparently not the case according to endocrinologist.

I would be so grateful to anyone to respond and let me know if they too have had any of the physical troubles and condition I am suffering from and if they believe they are a transitional stage or phase into or from perimenopause to menopause or something completely different.

HOLY COW!!!  I am 45 and didn't have anything but the chest, coughing and asthma type c**p after quitting around the same time or before you did.

No real signs of peri stuff and none of that stuff you listed is about menopause anyway.

Have you gotten any answers yet??

Hello there and thanks so much for your reply. Not so much other than its a possibility that my body is suffering from a combination of big changes due to diet change, quit smoking, menopause & hypothyroid, etc... I was at my doctor's last Wednesday, two days later the hospital and yesterday again I was at the hospital. None of the health professionals understand what is going on or why because all ECG's, bloodwork and other small tests indicate I should be healthy thus far, so would my physical, emotional symptoms be stress or panic anxiety related? The doctors are reluctant to say as much but even as I woke this morning after 7 hours of sleep, I am feeling restless, shaky, interbal vibration and in general an all keyed up sensation. At a complete loss now. Could this be a different topic on here, is this a mind/mental issue or problem?
Thanks so much.

Hi - I realise this post is a while ago but wondering if you ever found out what was happening? I too have exactly the same symptoms after a series of viral/gastro infections and after all the same tests have discovered my cortisol, DHEA and hormones are low. Hoping you're ok and doing well.
