Who owns and uses them for races.
As I was going through my RRS cataoog I notice a few pages of them.
I do not and likely never will because 1) Do not race enough 2) Can't justify the expense and 3 cant see how they would really make a difference.
Closest I ever got was owning spikes with changable spike lengths for cross country and track (we ran on a lot of dirt tracks). Much better traction and did make a difference.

Don't race often enough, too justify the expense. Plus I feel that its better to race in the shoe you are training in.

I had a couple of pairs, but mainly because I have a shoe obsession! I'm not fast enough to warrant having them, and Greg is right, it's better to race in the shoes you train in.

For the few occasions I get in peak shape and take Pr shot, I keep a pair on hand. 12km is about the farthest I'd race in flats though. Beyond that, cushioning is higher priority than ounces.

I did have several pairs a few years ago, back when I was actually fast enough to use them, lol! :?

I have a pair, but I don't wear them to race in. I just like how light and comfortable they are on my feet, especially in the summer.

I do all my road running in racing flats after reading 'Running Fast and Injury Free' by Gordon Pirie.
It's a fascinating book that concludes that virtually all running injuries are caused by modern running shoes i.e. fat spongy cushioned and stability shoes. You can download the book from
I swapped to using racing flats from Asics Nimbus 6 months ago and since then I have had no injuries despite running more miles and faster than I have previously. They're also cheaper too.
