Hi, I have atherosclerosis of external carotid artery, and I really worry about my health condition. How risky that is? I am taking aspirin, metoprolol and furosemid.

The external carotid artery is a major artery of the head and neck. It provides blood supply to brain. As brain is vital organ and needs constant supply of oxgen, if there are any interaptions caused by plaque or clot the consequencies can be fatal. you need to take your terapy regularly to have less chances for unwilling circulatory interuption to occur. You should have CT scan of external carotid arthery from time to time, to check it’s condition and progression of disorder. Genetics also play significant role, if you have inhereted predisposition for stroke, your chances increase.
