Hi. I'm 23 year old female and I would like to find out more about possible causes of bad breath. All I know is that I have never suffered from it but yesterday- good friend of mine told me that I have big smelly breath. I have realized that she didn’t lie to me anything and that I really do have bad breath.
When I got home I have realized from watching into mirror that I have inflamed tonsils. That have some whitish layer on them and they hurt like hell when I swallow.
Could it be that these tonsils could cause me this embarrassing bad breath? Please help!

Hello. I know that bad breath could be very unpleasant thing to suffer from but you shouldn’t be shamed of anything. Everyone from time to time experience this problem!
First of all, although not so commonly, bad breath could be caused by inflamed tonsils especially if they are covered with these white layers like in your case.
It is caused by bacteria and they in most cases produce bad odor.
You should also know that bad breath could be caused by several other things such as impaired teeth, build up of bacteria on your tongue and special kinds of food such as garlic, onions, cheese and others…Talk to your doctor about this!
