I've had herpes for almost 2 years. I am having the worst outbreak so far and after 10 days its only gotten worse. A friend of mine suggested abreeva or a less expensive brand. It hurts like hell when applied but afterwords it gets a cool minty medicated feel to it. It also blocked the pain when I have to go to the bathroom. Like I said... Hurts like hell for 10 seconds or so... But it may give some relief. Also, try vitamin d3. It's a good immune booster

Two things one Shingles is not Herpes but it can appear on and around gentials, many people get confused and assume its herpes when its not. I had a case of shingles but they were more the panty line area. So it is possible. Two I thought I had herpes a while back, finally went to see a doctor and it turns out I had skin infection due to shaving down there. But I was getting very itchy, painful bumps and I could hardly walk or sleep it was so bad. But they gave me some meds and cream and within a few days I was fine nothing has ever come back and its been years. So it might not be herpes if you do anything "unnatural" down there.

I've had it, i'm young, and it's awful. A first outbreak of Herpes normally takes about a month to heal fully... it's not nice atall, I was in bed for three weeks straight, I never left my bed, I couldn't walk, I couldn't eat or drink as I couldn't go to the toilet atall without screaming in agony! I know the pain is awful trust me, i've been there, and especially for a girl you can imagine it being even worse, I would reccommend going toilet in the shower, I had to do that, I would still scream and cry in pain, but if you put the shower on yourself on the coldest setting while you go toilet that does help... there were times that I thought I wanted to just end everything but now i've past that stage the out looks bright... It is the most painfullest thing ever but REMEMBER, after this, no matter how much pain you get in, you will be able to handle it, as you have gone through this, it makes you a so much stronger person at the end of the day, just fight through it! Eat alot of fruit, take Vitamin C tablets too, they will strengthen your immune system... take aciclovic (antiviral) it is impossible to find a treatment of herpes, as it is a long-term illness that cannot be cured, ever, but the anti viral tries to TAME and keep CONTROL of the illness. It is hard to come to terms with at first, but after things will look better I promise, just keep your head high.

I'm sure by now you are feeling much better, but I just wanted to tell you a little about my experience. I'm a girl and my first outbreak was pure torture. It started with just a few blisters and developed into a horrible, disgusting outbreak all over down there. My skin was literally peeling off and I could barely walk or sit down. I couldn't sleep because I was incredibly itchy every single night. This went on for over a MONTH. It took that long for my first outbreak to heal. Then, miraculously, I didn't get another outbreak for 2 years! I have now had herpes for 4 1/2 years and have had about 3 outbreaks that I can say for sure were actual outbreaks. There have been a handful of times where I just felt itchy but didn't see anything, so I'm not positive it was related. So, the point of my post is this: it does get easier! If each outbreak was like the first one, I don't think I would've been able to handle it. That was one of the most painful, depressing moments of my life. Thankfully our bodies learn to handle the virus better as time goes on. Hope you're coping better now and are outbreak free!

I have found Valtrex to be incredibly helpful but am experiencing something now like a very bad outbreak that has extreme muscle pain, lesions and throbbing pounding headache.  Anyone else have this?  It's been 5 days.  Lucky its the holidays.

Also, adding tee tree oil to the epsom salt helps me a lot.  It's a natural antiseptic and helps heal the lesions

after reading all your stories i still don't have a clue of what this could be. i first contracted hsv2 about 18yrs ago and after struggling with it the first couple of years it got better (not really, but not worse), I originally got in on my outer left butt cheek but ten slowly but surely has been 'moving' to my anus (ouch!). This started happening in the last 5-6 years, ok i've learned to live with it, but just about a month ago i started getting a little itching down there and after a week a got an outbreak on top of the anus, usually i can sense it is healing all in all in about a week, but this time the itching continues. Anyways, i looked in the mirror and the outbreak has healed (i can see the healing scab), but around my anus -more to the side- i can see little blisters, about 2-3 and the still itch like crazy. i believe this was the original itching that i first experienced this time, the itch-blisters are not going away, and i'm starting to get a little itchy and tender near the perianal region, also a little part of my scrotum (ball sack) was itching a bit and i went to take alook and it seems it was flaking a bit (same as the original poster i'm assuming).

What could this be now, after 18 years and now getting new symptoms? I have been monogamous for the last 15 years, and have not had sex in the last year-or two- (that is a topic with a whole other story). After the confirmed outbreak i did take valtrex 1gm twice a day for 8 days, helped with the confirmed outbreak but not with the 2-3 blisters below that are still there and am now going in my 4th week!

I feel uncomfortable and feel that im contagious (because the virus seems to be active all the time now), what can be happening, thanks to all for listening and replying/posting!

Herpes is a serious and recurring disease which can't be cured but just managed upto a level. There are several medications available which can be used to get relief from the disease, but the best way to deal with any disease is by having some natural therapies for it. I have read about hypericum mysorense and nosodes which can be really very helpful for the people suffering from Herpes. Although, people suffering, first must do a research on it. And consult a Doctor about the ailment.

Ive found it relieves the pain a lot if you urinate in the bath. Add two hand-fulls of salt to the water to help clean and promote healing of the sores. My first outbreak was so painful i was terrified to use the toilet but its manageable that way

I was diagnosed in 2007. My first outbreak just a week before my wedding :( luckily my husband and I have a very trusting relationship. Let me share a few things my dr told me. First, my gyn is also my mothers gyn. My mother had herpes while pregnant with me! I was never tested in my life until the outbreak!! My gyn tells me it is possible that the herpes was dormant in my body my whole life. And with all the stress and wedding preparations and other activity. It came out. It was a year and a half before my husband had an outbreak (I believe it was an outbreak his dr said it was simply jock itch) and strange enough to this day he has not been diagnosed with herpes? How, I do not know! Now a little tip...Ting it is a generic Lotrimin spray. When you feel an outbreak comming spray the area! Yes. It burns and you'll dance around shouting for a few minutes but it cuts your outbreak in half! No bellyache, no dizziness or any other side effects like you get from the medicines. Just a few minutes of dancing and cussing! When you pee... Clean yourself properly then use a clean cold wash cloth and blot dry with clean cloth. And now one more thing herpes is a life long thing and you need to be careful to protect your partners from getting it. But it also needs to be talked about. 1 in 4 people have this. So if you look at 5 of your friends chances are one of them have it too. Not just you!
