Hi,
You have to know one thing. Your body starts producing excessive mucus when your mucus membrane is irritated by some infection. And mucus membrane is located on the wall of your nasal cavity and sinus cavity. The foul and hard smell tells me that your problem is probably located in your sinus cavity. When person has sinus infection it can manifest with heard headaches and foul smell. The sinus infection can get complicated and are not easy to treat. A problem is they tend to come back after the treatment. Have you seen a doctor? Are you using any medication right now to treat this disorder? I know people often use herbal medication for sinus problems.
Good luck,
Danella

hi, I've been going through the same thing but worser I believe. he says his sister can smell it but everyone around me can smell the bad smell in my nose. you asked did he smoke. I smoke everyday now, and I see it makes the smell worser and louder. I have inflamed sinus for sure and postnasal drip isn't new. they both have really embarrassing symptoms. I think my case is severe though I've been dealing with this for 3 years now, I got prescribed antibiotics once, but I only seen relief for one day. i plan on going to an ENT asap because that seems like the only place who would be able to help. it has affected my life so emotionally and mentally. Could you give some insight?

Hello cee20.

A persistent bad smell in your nose could be caused by several factors, including:

1. Sinusitis: inflammation of the sinuses due to infection, allergies or other irritants.
2. Nasal polyps: non-cancerous growths in the lining of the nose or sinuses.
3. Dental problems: such as cavities, gum disease or infections.
4. Foreign bodies: such as small objects stuck in the nasal passages.
5. Medications: some medications may cause changes in smell perception.

Treatment for the bad smell in your nose will depend on the underlying cause. If you have a bacterial or viral infection, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics or antiviral medication. In the case of allergies, antihistamines may be recommended. If you have nasal polyps, surgery may be necessary. Dental problems will require treatment by a dentist.

In addition to medical treatment, there are some things you can do at home to alleviate the bad smell, such as:

- Nasal irrigation: using a saline solution to flush out your nasal passages can help remove irritants and bacteria.
- Use a humidifier: adding moisture to the air can help soothe inflamed nasal passages and reduce irritation.
- Quit smoking: if you smoke, quitting can help improve your sense of smell and overall health.
- Avoid irritants: try to avoid exposure to strong smells, chemicals, and other irritants that may worsen your symptoms.

Hope this will help.
