yes, terrible chest pain...hard to breath...day 2
I was on 10 mg Klonopin a day for several years and ended up in a psych ward where they immediately reduced it to 3 mg. following that, I tapered off, about .25 mg less daily each week. It was absolute hell. Each time I went just a crumb lower, I thought I would die. I am told it is worse than coming off heroin and I believe it. My life without benzoes is so much better, I have my memory and balance back, and my anger and mood issues are gone. I would run so fast from any of them, or so I say, because they are very addictive and I am weak now when it comes to that. I have a new psychiatrist who prescribed Lamictal, (along with my regular 400mg Zoloft and 200mg Topamax) and this has been a God-send. Sometimes anxiety creeps back, and it is hard to fight, but I've done very well. (not perfect!!!) please, if you don't take it, don't start
I am in NOVUS DETOX in Tampa as we speak. They specialize in detox
from methadone, alcohol, and benzos They taper you down with valium, and vitamin b injections from klonopin.

I am down to 5mg a day of valium after 5 days, by the 7th day they'll have me on nothing.

I've told them I'm afraid no matter how professional they are that I will still get shortness of breath. Some of you said you get symptoms even a month AFTER your detoxed?

That sounds horrible.
I've been on Klonopin, 2 mg twice a day for six months. I'm also taking Effexor(150 mg once a day). I went through a rough patch in life and decided on the bright idea of taking two klonopin (2mg each) at one time at night and one in the morning. Then one day I decided not to take it altogether, the effects resembled many aspects psychosis...basically complete mental confusion, anxiety attack, etc I also didn't take my effexor that day.

I'm wondering, is it truly possible to have the effects of withdrawl that severely in one day? I'm desperate for an answer to this. Please please help.
I have been taking clonazepam 2mg-6mg/day (generic form of Klonopin) for 6 1/2 years. My psychiartrist prescribed it for sleep in conjuction with Zyprexa when I first went to him to treat my bipolar disorder. I did not know that it was addictive and could make me depressed. I was becoming very depressed and was always tired. Yes I needed something to help me sleep that was prescibed but I never wanted to be a drug addict either. Nor did I want to feel so sedated during the day. I had many other symptoms of this drug's overuse. Memory loss, lack of coordination and delayed motor skills. Only in the past few months have I slowly decreased my dosage down to .5 mg/day. It may take weeks of decreasing the dose to taper off to nothing. The last 2 days I've not taken any clonazepam. My new Dr. said I need to get "off" this med as it's very addictive and stays in the body for hours. He substituted Seroquel into my regimen to help with the withdrawal. So far my sleep has been interrupted and I had chest pains really bad in the middle of the night. I found this sight VERY helpful as I was feeling like I was alone with this withdrawal symptoms. I know I will get through this. I am commited to being free of this very addictive medication.
I have been taking this drug for about 5 years. They tried me on everything I was like there drug tester to find out what could control my panic attacks and that is the only drug they found. When I went trough the experience of panic attacks I thought I was dieing but the doctor said they can't kill u They can only make u think u r dieing. Me I think that this med was the best thing he gave me I love my doctor. I can now go out around people where when I was going through panic attacks I could and would not go nowhere and I would not stay at the house by myself I had to have my momma their bc I thought something bad was going to happen. I am still at the same dose that I was at 5 years ago. It does not make me sleepy when I take it. It puts where I need to be. I just think people abuse this drug and don't use it for the right things just bc life ain't going right it does not mean this drug is the way out bc I know a pill does not solve the problems bc they never go a way till u deal with them ur self. I don't want to have to take this drug the rest of my life but before I go back to the way I was I will take Klonopin. I think that xanxa is worst than this drug. I have a friend that takes xanxa and when she don't have them she goes crazy and my klonopin does not do me that way. So to the girl that said that klonopin was worst than xanxa is so wrong bc if read up on they came out with klonopin to get people off xanxa a valuim bc everybody was abusing them drugs. Klonopin stays in ur system longer so that u don't have keep taking more and more of them. I am trough writing my hand r getting tried and that is all I have to say bout this drug.
Most people with true anxiety will read everything about any drug before taking it. Some may not. I have a Panic disorder with underlying anxiety and am also bipolar. I have taken klonopin for just about three years at 2mg a day. I know that you have to gradually come down from them. For most people because of the type of medication it needs to be very very slowly. I started by going down only to one and a half then gradually to one. I have not gotten past the one mg yet, due to the side effects of withdrawl, but now that I am being treated with abilify I should be able to come down now. For those who take higher doses, it is probably for something like tremors or shaking associated with parkinson's disease. If this is so, then you need to be extra careful when coming down from it. Always be aware of all of your medication. Klonopin is a very safe drug and it can be taken with almost anything. It can be extremely dangerous if not taken properly and not come off of properly. Overdosing can put you in a coma and/or make your body shut down. Coming off of it can without tiltrating down can cause seizures. A benzodiazapine is a seizure medication as well. Know what your taking and don't abuse it. If you ever feel you need more try breathing excersizes or walking into the cold of ice water to calm yourself. I can say for sure that it's better to self help then take more. You can stop your own anxiety by yourself. Trust me, It has taken three years, but I can do it and I have been panic attack free for over two years. Klonopin is NOT an addictive drug unless you have addictive behaviors and addictive past. It is better then taking Xanax or Ativan which are highly addictive. I don't know who you doctor is, but the side effects of klonopin are a lot better then most anti-depresants. I can't metabolize anti-depresants at all. I have seen several specialist, because my panic attacks started after I had post partum eclampsia with my last child and almost passed away. I have trusted and relied on klonopin to help with my anxiety but never relied on it. Never felt like I had to take it or take more. When I had a good day I took less, that DOES NOT hurt to do that. In fact it can help a lot in the future of coming off of it. Good luck to all of you, please excuse any spelling errors of meds....lol XD
I have only been on Klonpin for 2 weeks (1.25mg/day) and I decided to stop cold turkey and am experiencing SEVERE withdrawal. This drug is not good people. Even after short term use you withdrawal really bad. I am sticking it out though because I do not want to go back on it under any circumstance. I am only on my fourth day off of it so I'm hoping since I wasn't on so long my withdrawal won't last that long. Here's hoping.

Withdrawal Side-effects From Klonopin
You are the first one to mention the pain outside your hips. I have had this too since starting to taper from Klonopin. I went from .05, to .25/day for a couple of weeks. I have totally quite Klonopin for about a week and have been having many physical symptoms, dizziness, stiff, ankles, neuropathy in my feet, hypoglycemic symptons, and blurred vision. I just wondering how long it's going to take to get rid of the withdrawal symptoms? In many ways I feel better than I have in 2 years of suffering from depression and panic disorders. I hope to never take Klonopin or any benzo anti anxiety med again, and urge others to never start.

Jodi, I'm praying for you to get through this.
Hey---I'm newbie also. I had a bad case of sleep apnea which turned into Insomnia. Anyway I'm treating the sleep apnea and have been on Klonopin now for 3 months. Took 1mg the first month down to .75 mg last month down to .5 last 2 weeks and now down to .25 for the last 5 days. I took it for sleep and am staying with .25 for 2 weeks then amybe .125 for 2 more weeks then off. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. I also want off drugs. Been on 15 different ones this year.
