I was on depo for almost 3 years and lost 20 pounds. i went from 140 to 120. no joke. but i wanted to try something else. the pill sucks and the nuva ring kept fallin out, so now im on IUD and i gained all my weight back. so its super hard to tell which one is best for you, but i think i mite go back to depo lol

I started taking monoonessa 28's last year , the year i actually decided to start losing weight, and what do you know im down 65 lbs, so for me i actually lost weight. I recently stopped taking them to see what effects would happen. The month i stopped i ovulated right away (shocked as ever because i was not ov before the pill ) and gained 10 lbs back, so truth be told it can happen, change your eating and exercise routine and believe me you be fine.

I was on the patch for years, and never gained weight. I got the IUD (Mirena) 2.5 years ago and gained over 60lbs. My doctor is finally taking me off of it because I haven't been able to lose the weight no matter what I do.

I'm the poster who lost 65 pounds up top. Well it's been a while since I stopped the bill all together and gained 30 back . Now I'm back exercising and Losing weight again . Honestly I feel if bc is not a urgent thing I will never do them again . They help line your hormones id there all messed up, but if you continue them for too long you'll be all screwed around no matter which ones you lose lol take it from me X but if you have to take them make sure you exercise daily and eat right youll be amazed at the results you get

Kimberly - You realize everyone's body is different, just because you didn't gain weight doesnt mean Triphasil won't cause weight gain in someone else.

Mirena is a IUD that releases hormones, that is why you gained weight. As someone else previously stated there are IUDs that do not release hormones. Therefore if there is weight gain it is not attributed to the non-hormone releasing IUDs

I have to disagree with you. I am a collegate athlete who is on a very strict diet with a trainer and I worked out at least 3 to 4 ours a day with my coach, team, and trainer. I still managed to gain 60 pound in a year. I eat no candies, fried foods, and am limited to a certain number of calories a day. My life is anything but slow, and even then I managed to gain 60 pounds? The only thing that changed was the fact that I switched to the Depo Shot. My doctor noticed this uncontrollable weight gain even with a low calorie and high protein diet and several hours of intense physical activity and said that it was in my best interest to change my birthcontrol as soon as I could. So saying that BC does affect your physical appearance or make you gain weight is not correct because I live a very healthy livestyle and make very good nutritional decisions.

I've always been slim (DIDN'T THINK SO AT THE TIME) and then I went on the pill (Diane) and then I went on the (Brenda) cause it's cheaper and I was looking back at photos and i noticed i'd put on weight. I haven't changed my diet in fact I've been exercising more and eating less and healthier but i can't loose it. I've mainly gained weight around my stomach which previously has always been relatively flat and my arms. My thighs and legs have stayed the same but I have also got a bit of a puffy face. I know that its the pill because i started to put it on after i went on the pill. Especially after Brenda. It's not my diet or exercise because i live a very healthy life. I'm only sixteen and i don't want to live with this for the rest of my life. I love the pill because I can skip periods and its cleared my skin and i don't have to cope with nasty periods (before i went on the pill they were really heavy and long and irregular and i got spotting) i wouldn't care if it was for contraception i'd just go off it and use other things but i need this. My friend went on the Yasmin and she the doctor told her that it doesn't make you put on weight. But i swore i'd never go on the Yasmin because a girl died on it. like she dies from the pill so i'm not keen on going on it. i don't want the injection but i need a pill that doesn't make me put on weight

I also have been looking for a different birth control. I've been on the depo for about 2 1/2 years and I've gained 40 pounds. And I try to diet and exercise but it dosent seem to help. I can gain 10 pounds easily in about 1 week. The weight gain is unbelievable and I want to stop it until it gets out of hand. With all the reviews about the birth controls I guess I'm just going to have to test some out and see how my body reacts to them. But I think I'm going to be birth control free for a while until I get my body back in shape (:

This is a lie. I got the IUD in November and it is now May. I have gained 27 lbs and run anywhere from 2-7 miles a day as well as lifting weights. I'm horrified at the result. The IUD? Effective, but it has side effects, despite what they tell you.

Like a few of the people have said it all depends on how YOUR body reacts. I would try and experiment with the different types of birth controls and switch them up every 6 months. I was on the depo for 8 years and had to be taken off of it cause it put me into a pre menopause state. But i only gained 50 lbs the entire time on it. It all depends on how active you are when you are on birth control. I switched 6 months ago to the sprintec pill and love it i have lost 10 lbs so far on it and i just set a reminder on my cell to take it every night. Your best bet would just pick one and run with it for 6 months then pick another one and run with that one for 6 months. They only reason i keep saying six months is cause that allows your body time to get use to it and react as needed to it. Good luck find the right one for you.
