I've been on & off the same birth control for almost 2 years, When i take my pill i eat and eat and can't get full at all and this causes me to gain a lot of weight. when i dont take the pill i lose weight and continue a normal diet. Apri or 'Desogen' is my birth control. But obviously ; not taking the pill isn't the best decision. ANY HELP IS TOTALY NEEDED. I DON'T WANT TO GAIN ANYMORE WEIGHT ! ! !

I don't think many of them DON'T cause weight gain - but to be dead honest, a few extra kilo's is NOTHING compared to some of the OTHER side effects that hormonal birth control causes... :-/

I am so glad I found this website. I have been on depo for a VERY long time. I was taken off of it once because a bone density scan showed that at 28, I had the density of a 75 year old woman, I also weighed 107 pounds up until I was about 25. I started noticing gradual weight gain, I weigh 160-164 now. Granted, that is not huge but for a 5'3" woman, clinacally I am considered obese. I also have noticed a change in my mood, I am tired ALL of the time. I wake up in the morning and have to take a 5 Hour Energy. I go through bouts of depression and suffere severe anxiety. I have no desire for sex which really frustrates my husband because he thinks it is something wrong with him. I just chalked all of these things up to being over 30 now, having 3 kids and being depressed. I am so not the person I was 7 years ago. I have found some very insightful blogs with people's depo experiences and I am horrified that I have possibly been injecting myself with with fat, tired sadness all of these years. I was due for my shot on the 29th but I am going on Monday to discuss other options. I LOVEEEEE not getting a period but if it is at this cost, no thanks. I want myself back! Thanks eveyone whoe posted here, your stories have been a true awaking for me.

I was on depo for a little and had many problems with it but it was only a few months later that i wound up pregnant with my now 4 month Olds daughter so if your not ready for kids you may want to still be a little careful

My gynaecologist said although it was unusual for me to have an IUD despite not having children because it's a long term contraception, that I could still have it inserted. I have had mine for 2 years now and am on the search for a pill that works for me as I had used Levlen and gained weight on it, as well as messing up my hormones and natural vitamind levels; and now for the last two years I've experienced excruciating pain for ovarian cysts due to the IUD. As everyone says - contraception is trial and error as to how it will affect our bodies.

I would be careful with thinking it could take years to get pregnant after being on the shot I got pregnant 4 months after getting off the shot

I've been on the depo shot since April and have gained about 20lbs. I'm hungry all the time, and hardly ever satisfied! I have cravings for all kinds of things. I have terrible mood swings, and never have any desire for sex. I am switching methods at my appointment in December, but still have no idea what to try next. The nuva ring kept coming out, and I've had trouble remembering to take a pill.. but remembering to take a pill would be far easier than dealing with the person I've become. I don't want to do any implants or IUD since my husband and I are planning on starting to try to conceive within the next year.

Does anyone have any insight on the patch? That's the only other thing I can think to try...

I am not agreeing with the hundred pounds one person gained but my teenager used the same pill for several months, it was no longer avail and started a new one and has def gained weight in the 3 months she has been taking not altering her diet or exercise plan at all and HAS gained weight from birth control!

I was on Yasmin a few years ago (for approximately a year and a half), and I didn't gain any weight.  Now, that one is off the market, and I've entered into a monogamous relationship.  We've been relying on simply condoms for awhile, but I'm really not interested in getting pregnant at present.  So, the search begins for a birth control pill that won't kill me and won't make me gain weight.

I came here searching for answers, but haven't found any.  Guess I'll just have to experiment, as apparently everyone's bodies work differently.  Yasmin didn't put any weight on me, but I've read here that it has put weight on some people (odd, since it had a diuretic in it).

Does anyone know of any other birth control pill with a diuretic in it?

From my experience (I am a healthy, 36 year old woman, I exercise 5 days a week and I have three children) ALL of the options have always made me feel awful and from what I hear are not good for you...  We should all learn more about natural methods...

You can doubt it untill the sun comes up, but Depo-provera is STEROIDS! I used to think that only weak people looking for something to blame made up these stories, untill it happened to me! I consider myself very disciplined-but the only time in my life when I was fat, moody and pimply was after getting a depo-provera shot. 30 pounds later and lighter, I'm glad I never took it again.
