I have been on Mirena for about 5 months now, and I have gained about 20 pounds on it, and have become very emotional. I am actually getting it out in a couple weeks. I also was on DEPO for a year and gained 50 pounds. I have been on every birth control you can think of, and I personally think the mini birth controls with the same does of consistent hormones is less side effects and no weight gain. I have done my research, and I am getting back into motion with the one hormone pill that doesn't have so many side effects and a bunch of weight gain.
i was on depo and gained 45lbs in 2 months and didnt go back on the 3rd month. I am thinking about getting implanon inplanted in my arm, but i really don't want to gain anymore weight! Does anyone know if that method will cause me to gain weight or not
I had the IUD and it caused me to get a 7.5cm cyst on my ovary that caused me to have surgery to get it removed, it also caused me to bleed for 6 months straight light bleeding then finally no bleeding, also really bad cramping in my uterus constantly. Also I gained alot of weight with it and i got it took out cause i was wanting a child and I went through the mirena crash that caused me not to be able to hold any food down. I lost 27 pounds after getting it taken out. But that was just me, it might not happen for u. Just some info from someone experienced in the mirena iud
You don't need to have previously had a child to get an IUD, my friend is 17 and she got it and she most definitely has not had a child yet.
You don't need to of had a child to get the IUD. I had it put in when I was 20.
If I had my time over, I wouldn't have done it. I didn't know it at the time, but a few months after I went off the pill and converted to the IUD, I had an ovarian cyst which burst due to having polycystic ovarian syndrome which I was unaware of at the time. The pill had kept the symptoms, other than weight gain, away. I continued to have lots of cysts until my gynaecologist finally diagnosed me with PCOS. I insisted on having my IUD removed that day and to go back to the contraceptive pill, but a more expensive pill this time - Yasmin.
My gynaecologist said though girls can have the IUD without having had children, if she had of been the gyno I'd seen over 2 years ago to get the Mirena, she would have strongly advised against it. To those that have success with the IUD (and I hope your young friend is one of them), it's a great contraceptive that lasts 5 years. But if she does have consistent spotting, any cramping, or any unwanted symptoms, let her know the pill might be better. When I was first put on the pill my doctor prescribed the generic LevelenED which caused a decrease in my natural production of Vitamin B12 and caused a few other issues, which is why I researched the Mirena IUD. Not all doctors will take the time to tell you that you can trial and error pills. Had I of known there were more choices, I would have tried a few others to see what my body responded better to. It's hard to find doctors who will give you the run down on everything - if you find one - keep them!
I have had the IUD Marina (not sure of the spelling here) for almost 4 years and have gained over 50 lbs. I am also having some crazy hormone issues. I am on anti depressants and I crave food all the time. I have read about many women gaining weight with this form of birth control. The only god part is a lack of period. My OBGYN said it doesn't cause weight gain but I am sure it does. I also have many friends on it that have gained from 10 to 50+ lbs.I think it affects people differently. I am scheduling an appointment to have it removed and am searching for another solution. I can lose the weight but I always gain it back. I was 207 when I delivered my son and now, 3 yrs later, I weigh 265. It is disgusting and I hate it. I will miss the no periods thing however. I have used the patch but forgot to replace on week and ended up with my son. LOL I also had problems with it coming off in the shower and when putting on my pants.I have also used many other pills before including yasmine and ortho tricycline. I was just young (18 yrs old) and would forget them in the morning. I have grown up now (33 yrs old) and have other daily meds to take so this will just be one more to add to the lot. I am due to be married in a few months and we may just go ahead and have our last one now while I am in college and then have my tubes tied. We have 3. 2 Boys( 3 and 8 ) and 1 Girl ( 16 ). Good luck to everyone here. I do NOT however recommend the IUD Merania.
Yeah do not do the depo shot, i ganed like 30 pounds and have the WORST mood swings. I'm just now getting off the shot, because i need to lose weight and don't want to be so emotional.

i have been using the mirena for 2 years and its given me alot of problems i am having it removed tomorrow but they are going to have to do an ultrasound because they can not see it, if they can still not get it out they will have to do surgery but i have heard mirena works well for others apparently not for me
where do you get it online?
It really depends on the person but birth control pills do cause weight gain in most people. Some people actually loose weight or stay the same, but most gain.
hello you might want to test it out for a few weeks? I was put on yasmin once; by week two i was so emotional it's really funny when i think of it now.
i do recall gaining about 5lbs in those weeks but they fell off once i stopped yasmin, and went on a healthier diet.
I was on the shot for a couple years and I have so noticed I gained some weight over that course of time. Just a pound here and there so I really didn't noticed it until the nurse brought it up to my attention. I then switched to a pill which seemed to work great. Been on that for a couple years but then the doctor wanted to switch me to a generic brand ensuring me that they were the same. I agreed. I wore a pair of pants fine in October and now they are to tight. Another pair of pants that I just wore in Feb are now getting to tight. I don't eat unhealthy but again I am not a health freak. I try having a meal replacement shake for breakfast or a yogurt and some strawberries. I eat a small and healty snack such as fresh strawberries and a granola bar. I will eat subway or something for lunch. Another healthy snake and then for a dinner, my family and I plan something such as steak, bbq chicken or something. I do alot of walking at work, climbing up and down stairs, climbing up and down hills and will usually walk my dogs or do some workouts at home. I can't believe that I am just gaining weight when I am not going through the fast food drive threw and and being some what active. I havn't even been on these pills for a year. I am depressed and moody because of my weight gain. Could it really be because of the difference from name brand and generic? Has anyone else tried generic brand birth control? I hate to get off brith control since I am married and we are not ready for a baby but at the same time I don't want to lack self esteem and be depressed.
