Hi,
Medically your not too young for birth control. You might need consent from a parent or guardian though due to your age.... Im not really sure about this... depends on your location.
The pill is very handy, you know exactly when your period will be due, it will likely be very light, and it protects you very well against pregnancy. Are you too young to take it? Depends on why you want to take it, and they would all be personal things.
Yes, the pill definately has side effects. For some women these are minor, and for others are enough to make them stop taking it. Most common side effects seem to be with mood changes.\ and headaches. For me, the pill really affected my stomach, I got sick often and had some strong stomach pains every now and then. I also got bad headahces before my period because when you stop taking the active tablets each month your hormones fluctuate which can cause headahces and is quite common I believe. After four years of taking it, with my stomach issues, I stopped. It is very handy though and I wish in some ways I could keep taking it. But the side effects got too much for me.
You should know that the pill you get will list possible side effects in an information booklet. There are quite a lot of them. Hopefully your doctor can run you through these. Also, when you start taking it is is fairly normal to have spotting for up to three months while your body adjusts to the hormones.
Hope this helps.
