My daughter was prescribed biaxin for pneumonia. She developed diarrhea straight away. It thought this was her reaction to the drug and that it would go away but it’s been 4 days and she still suffers from it. Should I discontinue the drug or find over-the-counter drug to get rid of the diarrhea?

Mild diarrhea should have disappeared after adjusting to the drug. Don’t take any over-the-counter drugs but talk to her doctor straight away. Biaxin, as well as other antibiotics may cause a potentially life-threatening form of diarrhea that signals a condition called pseudomembranous colitis, which is an inflammation of the large intestine. If diarrhea is severe, stoip the drug and call her doctor right away.
