Hi, I have an extreme pain in my abdomen which has got worse over the past year or so. I had these same pains for a year or 2 before i started my periods (at 13) but as soon as my periods started it stopped.
Up until i was 17 i had irregular but light periods (3-5 days with occasionally clotting) and never had any symptons of PMS.
Then when i was 17 and became sexually active i went on pill which helped regulate my periods but started getting really bad PMS (mood swings and cramps). I took the pill for a year/ 18 months then stopped because i was sick of the cramps and split up with then bf. My periods returned to being irregular and i assumed that would pass after a while as my body adjusted.
After a couple of months with my new bf when i was 19 (about 6 months after i stopped taking the pill) he convinced me to go back on it. Again i got extreme pms and bad cramps, after only a couple of months i gave up taking them ( i always forgot to take it at the exact same time each day, and couldn't deal with the cramps and mood swings).
I am now 24 and the period pain has only got worse and heavier and lasts the full 5-7 days. I always just assumed the heaviness was to do with the fact that i'm now a pretty healthy weight , whereas since i was born to about 19 i was always half a stone or so underweight dispite loving the unhealthiest of foods. ( I now have a very healthy mainly vegetarian diet)
when i was 22 i went to the doctor whose responce to my irregularities was "if you were much older i would extremely worried, but at your age its probably nothing!" which wasn't so reassuring, and i gave up on these useless doctors who feel they have to diagnose within a minute.
Since then i have started getting really bad trapped air with my period, it litterally feels like my stomach has been twisted at both ends, i find i can't burp or pass wind and occassionally get extreme stabbing pains when i go to the toilet. Its normally so bad i have to take the day of work, and find it too uncomfortable to even move or do anything to try and take my mind of it, it can also bring tears to my eyes. Over last xmas this was accompained by anemia i would get cold and dizzy. I found eating mackrel just before my period helped with this, but with not being regular this can be awkward to work out.
I often have 2 periods a month, over this summer it returned to once a month (its occasionally done this but never for more than 2 months), then 2 weeks later i had my next one with no pain at all, and now a month aftr my last period i have my next one, so maybe they have become regular again ( the last irregularity maybe down to the fact i was camping during a full moon as i know the moon can affect your cycle) . Some irregularities before did seem to be my body alligning itself to the cycles of a particular female housemate (she was quite the dominant one) and my other housemate also alligned to her. The other female sometimes did but not so much as she was away from the house a lot more. I wonder if its something this simple causing irregularities ( I have 3 sisters and have always lived it multi-sex houses since moving from home. Now i live with my bf family he has no sisters, im alligned with his mum, and were no longer in the city so im not arround my female friends so much.
My current bf also wants me on the pill but 've refused i don't like the idea of pharmacuticals and messing around with my natural flow. I hadnt taken paracetamol (or any pain killers) for 8 years until a couple of months back when i was threatened with being sacked if i took another day off work. Obviously it stopped the pain which was extremly severe but strangly enough i still knew the pain was there and could still feel it (just without so much pain) if that makes sense.
I assume the bloatness and trapped air is related to my periods, though i also get it when im not on my period. I now avoid fizzy drinks, i drink redbush tea instead (no caffiene) and avoid eating too much of the same thing (bread, pasta, cheese etc...) .
The problems with my periods have continued over 10 years, whereas the 'air bubbles have been over the last year or so. The only exception i can think of is when i was 19 and returned from travelling i got bloated and ill with every single thing i ate. I loved unhealthy foods and ate only local organic healthy carbs and veg while travelling, then returned to my normal diet. Wheat made me ill, dairy made me ill, potatoes made me ill, i couldn't eat or drink at all without immediately looking like i was 9 moths pregnant. My mum cut everything out of my diet and slowly reintroduced them back in, and ive been able to eat wheat, carbs and dairy since... i came to the conclusion my body had an allergic reaction to all the chemicals and pesticides we have now have in our food. Though i now eat reasonably well, fresh veg, homemade food, mainly vegetarian with small amounts of meat once or twice a week ) What im really trying to work out is how much diet affects this pain and how much is caused by my periods (i only get the pain with my periods)
I also get some hairs above my lips and the ocassional one on my chin or nipples (which i know is fairly common) so could an hormone imbalace also be contributing?
theres one more thing i forgot to mention but i ont know if its relevant, but sometimes i get pain in my abdomen during deep penentration and during a certain position in particular
Does anyone have any idea whats going on me and what could be causing all this? Could i possible have a cyst or something (i know my mum once had ovarian cancer).??

Sounds very much like I dealt with. For me, it ended up being endometrial cysts on my ovaries and fibroids in my uterus. The cysts on my ovaries caused my hormones to be off balance. That created facial hair at a young age, mood swings and sever pain during my cycle. The endo can also attach itself anywhere in your abdomon and cause things to stick together. Fibroids can cause you to have irregular and/or very heavy cycles. An ultrasound showed my ovarian cysts and fibroids, but I suffered for years before they were big enough to see. The only way to prove for sure its endo is through surgery. Talk to your Gynecologist. There are several different ways to deal with these things. There isn't one right answer for everyone.

Hi, did you ever get a answer for what you have?
I have the exact same symptoms. From the huge bloating to hurting
With certain positions and deep penetration.
Thanks!

I agree you should get checked for cysts & fibroids, but also note that a healthy diet high in fiber and veggies can lead to trapped gas as well. You might want to try dietary enzymes like Beano or Lactaid to see if they help. There is also a blood test you can do to conclusively see if your body has problems with gluten. Good luck!
