Yes, it can be ulcerative colitis because it is manifested that way, and you can have mucus in stool - a lot of it to be honest.

it could also be crohns disease or coeliac disease. i suffer from crohns disease and have the symptoms you have and some. there is also a possibility that you have a food allergy. have you been eating anything new lately? have you been going to the toilet more than once a day? an infection is another possibility. your doctor will be able to do some test or refer you for further examination.

I would contact doctor if I were you. Perhaps could be polyps that need to be removed.

I have had diarreah type poop for awhile and it is continuing but not watery all the time just soft. Anyway when I wipe its bloody and a good amount anyway I may go to the doctor soon. I am worried. I also have stomach aches often. My medicine for OCD does that and all. I don't know if it is bad but I think I will be good :-)

Yes, classic symptoms of ulcerative colitis - see a gastroenterologist. Cut back on the fiber and sugar and see if that helps. Eat yogurt or take a probiotic. I've had UC for years.....

i just went the toilet and noticed a small amount of blood in my mucus. i didn't pooh just mucus came out. what does this mean? help, i'm scared + i'm only 14. just over a week ago i had a stomach bug and now i'm just poohing and mucus is coming out. is this just a side affect to the stomach bug or am i really sick? help, help, help :-(

I have those exact same symptoms! They told me it was IBS. Which I doubt because I've changed my diet many times and it still happens. Thanks everyone else who listed the other things. I'll go see someone about it again.

i have those symptoms too, and i have colitis. i had blood and mucus for years and did nothing about it as i was too scared in case they told me i was dying or something! it is very frightening to see blood but if you r young it is usually an ibd and not the big "c" go to the doctor and ask for a referal for endoscopy. good luck.

bright red is kindof a good thing, you have ulcers hun, i have it to you will be fine, take some over the counter prilosac to get rid of the pain it will take a few days. if it is bad go to a docter but thats about the jist of it

When experiencing multiple movements per day (over 10) combined with mucas and blood, you will want to get to a Gastroenterologist directly if you can. Whomever you do go see, make sure they do a stool culture to see if you have a intestinal bug first and if that is clear, yet symptoms persist, they SHOULD do a colonoscopy to find the source of the blood.



I developed Ulcerative Colitis in my early thirties and it became much much worse following the birth of my first child. It can be very dangerous if untreated and movements with blood increase. (Toxic megacolon, for instance).



If you are experiencing all BUT blood, and you are clear of intestinal bugs, you may be diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which is another way of saying they do not know what is wrong, so have yourself tested for food allergies if that becomes the case.



All of these tests seem very scary at first, but all are painless (a little gross perhaps). Once you get everything checked out and know what is going on, you'll feel much better.

I have had colitis since i was 17, i am now 49, now i no-longer have it. I can not remember the last time i did have a flare up. I have been on steroids on and off over the years, due to the steroids i now have osteoporosis in my spine. I'm taking medication for this, so anyone on steroids ask for a bone scan only if you have been on them for a few years. Ways to help reduce your colitis is to de-stress yourself as stress causes it to flare up, anyone working tell your boss that you need to be close to the toilet. It has nothing to do with your health (food) but alcohol can cause the ulcers to bleed so drink don't get drunk is my advice. When i had it i was going to the toilet up to 20 times a day, and loosing blood caused me to be on iron tables for the rest of my life. Now it seams my son could be going through it now at 29 years old, only he is loosing mucus where i did not, he is waiting for test, this is a genetic thing as my aunt on my dads side had it too.  Regular visits to the hospitals for tests MUST be kept as Bowel cancer can occur if not, samples will be taken of the ulcers but this does not hurt, you will be sent some Clean prep which you will have to drink to clear the bowel for a colon-oscophy tube to passed up the rectum, air will be injected so expect wind after. Depending on how bad or how long you have had it you will have one every 2 years otherwise one in 5 years. You need this to make sure there is no cancer present. Think about your lifestyle and try to change it most of the time i say oh f**k it water off a ducks back. Take your steroids as its the only way you will be what i call NORMAL. If you have a flare up contact your doctor ask for more steroids. For everyone suffering, fear not it will go in time its not a lifetime thing.
