I think you're onto something by assuming that it could be a gastrointestinal problem. That is what i suspected the issue might be so I'm glad that someone else noticed it. Can you let me know how you're doing? It sounds like you really found an issue. Thanks!

I've suffered bouts with the same pain for over 15 years off and on. It is gastrointestinal (esophagitis). Stop drinking soda (and smoking;). Eat small bland meals. Elevate the head of the bed about 6 inches (propping with pillows doesn't work). Lose weight. Relax if you can. Understand that chest pain brings on anxiety (the body's mechanism to alert us of a possibly serious health issue). Anxiety makes the condition worse. Use an acid controller, remain on your feet after meals, and don't lie down for at least 3 hours after eating. If the pain seems unbearable use good ol' Mylanta (or a generic)...at least 2 tablespoons. Be patient. The tummy takes a while to heal.

I've had the same symptoms as many of you posting here. I'm 42 & I don't smoke, drink, etc. I'm not overweight & eat fairly healthy. My pains started almost a year ago & seem to start from the back between my shoulder blades & feels like it goes through to the point where my ribs meet & sort of feels like when you swallow a big pill & it gets stuck half way down your throat. More aggrevating when I'm sitting idle & it's better if I'm moving around & keeping loosened up. I feel fine getting up in the morning except for a sore neck & shoulders from a bad sleeping position I think. Occasionally, I get numbness in my left arm to my thumb, index, & middle finger which may or may not be related? Seems to be more noticable if I get hungry or after eating a little to much. May be gastrointestinal related because antacids seem to help. I go to a chiropractor & the symptoms usually are relieved after the visit but returns sooner or later depending on the physical demands of work, etc. Don't know what to make of it.

I find very useful the info. on this post, a while ago I was laying in bed
9,000 miles away from home and experiencing pain in my torax.
I have also found that one possible cause of ( my pain ) is that
I am strongly built and sleep on my side. So maybe because of
stress I inconciouselly press and that slightly harms the structure.

I have similar symptoms! Sharp pain in breast bone under left breast, also feel a burning sensation on my left side- under the left shoulder blade near the under arm. (both on the same path along the "bra" line) - sometimes the pain radiates but it's always along that line...and feels like a sunburn under the skin. Mammograms turn out ok, other than being fibrocystic.

I don't eat spicy foods, smoke, or drink alcohol. Dr. RX Prilosec which I take daily so don't think it can be attributed to gas, heartburn, etc, and I have it all hours of the day, even when sleeping (I can't lay certain ways in bed due to the pain, and dread wearing bras, even wireless are irritating).

This started for me 3 months ago and has not let up. I really hate when the Drs all say "it's just stress" because that is so insulting and just shows how little they know.

Anyone had an accurate diagnosis or found relief? ?

I have had most of the same symptoms. I have also had pains along my neckbone and the feeling of being chocked. My doctor has ruled out a bug in my stomach and also my thyroid. My blood tests have shown abnormal liver function but there has been no diagnosis for my problem. Any one else getting the same? :$

Hi there,

I also had (have) similar pains. I also have a xiphoid that is now projecting and used to be flat! Certainly part of the preoblem is acid reflux. This pain in the breast bone and shoulder blade is one way that it manifests. You have to strictly cut out the following:
Citrus, spicy foods, greasy foods, chocolate, mints, alcohol and coffee. It is really hard to do this strictly. After a couple of months your back pain will go away entirely and you can carefully add back a few of these foods in moderation. Also, put your bed on a slant by putting the front legs of the bed on a couple of bricks. Prilosec, or one of those similar medications also helps.

Good luck!

Hi,

I have these pains too!!!

I have pain in my ribs, breast bone and shoulder pains. I do also suffer from indigestion problems too but have found that this is unrelated. I am 28 years old female. To help me, I have been taking glucosomene(not sure of spelling) and other supplements to help strengthen the bones and will be taking ginger for the indigestion.

No one seems to know what is wrong with me. I have been told that it is probably due to working on the computer for long periods of time and posture.

The pain does seem worse in the evening and I end up rubbing balms in the painful areas before I go to sleep, which do help. I have had this pain for 3 years now and it has started to get worse :-( I have always worn heavy support bras with underwire and am beginning to think it has something to do with that???!!! I am looking at getting a posture support chair to help too....

Not too sure if any of this will help you but I am going to try anything! :'( :'( :'(

Hello, I'm sixteen and I'm experiencing the same pain. I get a sharp pain on my breastbone which then travels through to my back between my sholder blades. I also get pain down my left arm and sometimes I struggle to breathe properly and end up having to walk around taking deep breaths. I also have the pain right now just lying in my bed.

My doctor is pretty rubbish to be completely honest. He never seems to tell me what is wrong with me whenever I have a problem. For example I went to see him as I had the mumps and he failed to diagnose me. He only realised that it was the mumps after I suggested it to him! So i'm not so sure about going to the doctor.

Can anyone else explain why I am getting this pain?

Thanks.

So it would seem I have the same issue as the rest of you. I am 19 years of age and the pain is only 3 days old. It started as a mild pain but after some stretching to see if it would help the pain, it would seem I made it worst and now it is a paralyzing pain in my back.

Area of Pain:

Pain is located behind my left shoulder blade. Seems to be in the lower area of the shoulder blade and causes pain similar to a sprained muscle. Like something is hurt and sore.

I can relate! Since I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I just assumed the pain was from that, but will research costochronditis. Right now, I'm sitting at my computer at work, but when I move the least little bit, the pain will be excruiating.

One of the things you should have your Dr test for is Pancreatitis. I have it. The pain will start right below the center of breastbone. It will also cause you to throw up too. It is one of the most painful experiences. Having a baby is no comparison. I also had a collasped lung caused by the intense pain. If you're eating fatty foods, dairy products, sweets, or if you have diabetes then have the Dr check for problems with the pancreas. I wish you all good luck.
