Any one who is on 32mg of subutex needs to get off as soon as possible because now you are a graduated Addict. You dont need that much if you have been on heroin all of your life. Also, if you were on prescription meds for 9 mo. all you have to do is detox for 7 or 8 days and you would of been OK but now you most likely will be on drugs until your blue in the face. Noone needs that much beupenorphine.I am so tired of people thinking they have a problem just because theyve been on pain meds for a little while. Also, you can't take 32mgs on subs and feel nothing. Impossible.

I have hep c and am on 8mg suboxone daily for 1 year. I haven't had any adverse affects so far and I really don't expect any. As far as someone taking 32mg a day, well you have graduated to an addict and are possibly on deaths doopstep. That is way too much. As to the person shooting them, your days are numbered. Its people like you who cause people like me to not be able to get treatment that we want and need. If the person on 32mg a day would have an accident and they do a blood test you would go to prison. What are you thinking. I believe that the good that subs do outways the bad and I wouldn't worry about the liver too much. I rather would worry about staying clean from drugs. Drugs ur baad.

I have taken Imuran for over 20 years and must get my blood work done every time before I get a 90 day supply. I have never had any problems with my liver numbers until a year ago when I had a lingual severed by a drill in the dentist office. My primary care physician doesn't seem to be worried about the elevation of my liver enzymes, however my Gastroenterologist is very concerned. I have had to come off everything including supplements and have another test coming up on the 21st of this month. My gastro doc wants me to come off of everything for a solid 30. days and I refuse to come off of the butrans because I wouldn't be able to work every day and survive at a job that is managing other peoples money. I have stopped everything except butrans and Imuran so I will see after 30 days if the numbers change.
I am hoping it's not related because I cannot function with out the patches. Will keep you posted.

I have been on Suboxone / Buprenorphine for as long as it has been here in Oregon.Feels like over 8 yrs now... Dr Walt Byrd r.i.p. he transitioned me over the course of an afternoon from Methadone wafers. I felt like I was trippin for a few days, the feeling was strange and difficult to describe but it did go away and all was well. I have to agree that I dont get 'high' on Suboxone I really dont feel anything..unless i dont take it. Withdrawl for me on Suboxone is very similar to Methadone, just plain miserable. I started on 32mg and now am at 16mg .I take 1, 8mg in the morning and another at night. I am a longtime heroin addict who spent the 90s with rigs & cotton in my pocket. I shared plenty of times and was lucky to have avoided HIV. I have seen many patients/peers who should not be on opiate replacement therapy, and there are days when I wished for freedom from ANY mind altering chemical, just cant remember what that feels like. With that said I firmly believe had I continued on the path I was following I would either be incarcerated or in a pine box, I was not the smartest junkie and took stupid risks chasing my next high. So for me I have respect and admiration for ANYONE who wants to make positive change in their life, for some Suboxone is a good fit, people like myself see the real change that has happened and Suboxone has helped play a part in this transformation. Its not just the pill, or juice or strip or whatever, its also about doing life differently and being able to live in our skin, look in the mirror and see someone you wouldnt mind spending a lifetime with...

My son is in detox/rehab now. When he went in a week ago his liver enzymes were 150, after being there for a week on Subutex his enzymes went to 2000 and was admitted to the hospital three days ago. They haven't found anything else wrong with him (no hepatitis) and his levels are coming down now, but slowly. They are keeping him for observation but obviously the Subutex has to be the problem here.

I know this post is old.... I am new to this whole posting thing. But, I started suboxone 6 months ago r/t opiate dependency/abuse. Though my liver tests were normal (high normal) they are now way above normal. Yes, I believe that suboxone causes liver damage. These suboxone "dealers" are just that. I am on day 9 of withdrawl (in hell to some degree) I don't believe this drug is for the betterment of people but for the betterment of MD's looking to make money off us who we really only went to them for help out of the hell we have been in. Yet, they don't even realize they are killing us even quicker. Just my thoughts.....

'No one should be on subs for more than a year'? Is this a joke? Who are you to set limits like this?
'you have no idea how much damage you are doing, you should NEVER take more than 8mg a day, and even that is quite a bit'... actually, YOU don't have any idea! Their doctor does, and has weighed the risks of taking the medication vs not-taking it.
I say well done for staying off heroin for 3 years. If it requires 32mg of Suboxone a day it must have been very hard for that person to stay away. The damage done from 32mg Suboxone use over a 3 year period is in any event substantially less than full-on heroin use over the same time frame. The stable lifestyle and avoidance of high risk situations (incl. HPC and HIV risk) alone speaks volumes of the benefit of Suboxone vs the alternative of heroin addiction. While it is true that one substitutes one addiction for another, the Suboxone addiction is much more manageable thereby providing the opportunity for a stable life style and re-integration in society. Transforms the addict from cut-throat sociopath into a functioning member of society. For some people the required dose to achieve this is as low as 2mg, for others is 8mg and yet for some the dose is 32mg. While the Suboxone dosage varies the alternative to Suboxone treatment does not! Following your regimen of prescribing a maximum 8mg dosage for a maximum of 1 year is going to generate significant amount of treatment drop-outs and risk the health of these individuals by under dosing and cutting their treatment short. When judging people so harshly it may be a good idea to first consider what their alternative would have been before lashing so ignorantly!
