A few weeks ago my wife started having a burning pain in both hands, Never had this before. We have seen a Family Doc, a Neurologist and a Rheumatologist. All tests, Blood, MRI and Nerve conductivity have not found any cause. Pain Meds are only thing that provides her any relief. She has no neck pain and no visual or swelling in the hands. Just burning on the palms and back of the hands. At times her legs also feel like the ar sun burnt, but they do not hurt as bad as her hands. Thus far we have not determined a cause. This has been going on for 5 weeks. Any ideas?

Could it be shingles? Has she ever had chickenpox?

Just a thought.

The doctors say no to shingles. She has had shingles and a shingles shot. Ghe does not have any redness or other visual indication of Shingles.

I'm glad that has been ruled out, although there aren't always any visual indications of shingles.

I'm sure they've tested for Lyme, diabetes, and kidney issues. These would be the most common. Unfortunately, sometimes no cause is found for neuralgia.

Keep us posted. I wish her the best for a speedy recovery.

Thank You very much for your thoughts. I believe they have checked for the issues you mentioned. The Rheumatologist took anther blood test last Monday and we have no results back yet, He also x-rayed both her hands. In the mean time all we can do is provide her some pain releif using pain medication, Hydrocodone/APAP 5mg/500mg, but as you know this is not a good solution.

I wake up in the middle of the night every night with my hands hurting. I touch the end of my fingertips and it feels hard as a rock. I point my hands down towards the floor and after a moment it is a little better. When i wake up in the morning its still there. As long as i keep putting my hands down and shaking them it goes away for a minute then happens again. What is wrong someone please help me.

Just a quick update on my wife's pain in her hands. We still do not have positive answer as to what is causing her hand pain but it may be something called Small Fiber Neuropathy. The Neurologist prescribed Gabapentin which as I understand it, helps to reduce sensitivity of the nerves. She is also taking pain meds every 6 hours. As of now the pain seems to have deminished and we are reducing the pain meds. I am hoping that the Gabapentin and not the pain meds have helped the problem, but we should know for sure in the next week.
