Just letting you know I get the sensation with nyquil too!, no kidney stones. One doctor told me nyuil contains alcohol, a pharmacist told me a that a generic store-brand equivalent does not contain alcohol but I'm not sure if it improved. Drink a tall glass of water and as little nyquil as possible. 30 yo male.

They only tell women it's imagination or "all in your head". A guy farther up the thread got whole batteries of tests and a promise to consult colleagues. You got "you're imagining it." That's why we have too many regulations in the world--because some "experts" who should know and do better fall back to laziness and stereotypes to inform their expertise. ..

Anyway, I'm 46 and only started getting this issue 2 months ago (burning within minutes of alcohol that goes away after a few dozen minutes.) I see a doctor answered this thread and it's taking quite a lot of scrolling to find it. Onward!

Hi All, I am Male, 50 yrs , 5' 11'' 190 lbs, fit, no health issues - suffering from these exact symptoms as well. I am posting a detailed summary of my journey below in hopes that it helps all of us. No cure yet !! I will post if I find anything that works.
------------------------------------------------------
Summary of Symptoms / visits
Symptoms
Primary symptom: Burning pain when urinating only at the tip of the penis.
Normal levels of urgency, however, when “super-hydrating” these normal levels of urgency may be accompanied by moderate pain in the penis and bladder region. When I do urinate I have a strong, steady stream that lasts between 15-20 seconds and produces 7-10 oz. (I measure it periodically). I feel completely relieved and evacuated. If I am NOT super-hydrating my urine may have a foul odor.

Normal urination at night - specifically – If I do not drink anything 1-2 hrs before bedtime I sleep through the night. If I do drink I may get up one or two times. This is no different than what has been the norm for, at least 1-2 years. Additionally, - oddly enough - the first urination of the morning is typically 100% pain-free.
Sexual activity – same partner, monogamous for over 2 years. Other than pain similar to the urination pain described above during ejaculation, sexual activity is unaffected. Sexual activity is frequent and rigorous and we may discuss this at the time of appointment.
Sudden pain - Curiously, in the past 2-3 weeks I have been experiencing a new symptom. If I drink certain liquids, (mainly noticed with anything containing alcohol, wine, tequila, mixed drink) I will get an almost immediate (1-3 minutes) burning pain in my urethra. This pain lasts for 10-20 minutes and begins to subside. I can’t explain this, however, in my search for answers I have noticed that there are people out there with the exact same symptom.

Visits/tests
September 2 2016 began taking clindamycin (10 days) for a bad infection in my hand. This is worth noting since it was the only major medical event that preceded my urinary issues.
Beginning in October 3 2016 I was treated for Dysuria/UTI using Bactrim – 7 days. Symptoms seem to clear up then returned by October 24, 2016.
Burning urinary pain continues
10/24 – Urinalysis – negative. – Wait another week
Burning urinary pain continues. Increase hydration, drinking cranberry juice.
11/1 – Urinalysis – Negative, Dr Ryback (My Primary Care Dr.) assumes Yeast infection prescribes a single Diflucan tablet.
11/3 – no improvement.
11/4 – Visit Dr. Bae (Urologist) – Assumes vigilant yeast infection and extends Diflucan prescription for 7 days. –
11/8 - No Improvement , Urinalisys for yeast infection comes back NEGATIVE. Stop taking Diflucan.
Burning urinary pain continues. Increase hydration, drinking cranberry juice and cranberry pills
11/18 Dr. Carroll – (Urologist) – recommends CT Scan
11/18 - CT Scan of urinary tract at Southcoast.
On 1/10 I called Dr Ryback’s office and I requested these results be sent to your office.
11/18 - Visit Dr. Carroll – CT Scan results negative. Urinalysis Negative. Prescribed Flomax ?!!?
At this point I research Flomax and decided that the symptoms I am having do not coincide with the symptoms the drug proposes to alleviate (urgency etc .., not penis pain/burning) . I discuss this with the pharmacist and he agrees. Flomax (from what I have learned) is primarily for BPH symptoms. As revealed via the CT scan on 11/18, I do not have an enlarged prostate or BPH. Additionally, the side effects of Flomax are well documented and I do not believe the cost of these side effects is worth trying before further investigation takes place.
Theory: I believe I have some sort of UTI that is not showing up on a normal urinalysis bacterial culture (for e. coli). Are there are other bacterium I may be tested for? Is it possible the antibiotic clindamycin affected my normal “good” bacterial levels and caused “bad” bacteria to flourish in my bladder similar to the way it promotes the out-of-control growth of Clostridium difficile (C-DIFF) in the gut? I feel like the prescription for Flomax is nothing more than a “first guess” and I am looking for a solution. This is the reason for the multiple medical opinions.

1/12/2017 visit with Dr Lang (Urologist) . Inspected prostate (digitally), pelvic exam, bladder scan - 110ml retained in bladder. Suspect prostate infection. prescribed doxycycline for 10 days. Also did a blood PSA and noted it was a bit elevated at 4.1. Urinalysis was clear. Also tested for Tuberculosis ? Negative!
Doxycycline was ineffective. Dr. Lang schedules me for a Cystoscopy. A procedure where they insert a camera through the urethra all the way past the prostate and into the bladder.
3/21/2017 - Cystoscopy confirms bladder / prostate irritation. In the Doc’s words - “You aren’t imagining things, there is definitely something causing this irritation alright” He assumes an infected prostate.
At this point All of the symptoms above are still occurring unchanged / unabated.
Dr. Lang prescribes Levaquin for 30 days ! . This antibiotic is a black-box warning drug. Do your research before you start taking it. I started having side effects after a week and stopped taking it.
Dr. Lang changed prescription to Bactrim twice a day for 30 days. No Change.
I am also taking a “Prostate Health formula” called “PROSTA” as well. This supplement has all the usual ingredients - Saw palmetto , stinging Nettle etc …. that many of these supplements have.
5/2/2017 - Followup with Dr Lang. - Still no change in symptoms. Tests: Urinalysis - Clear , PSA - down to 2.17! I guess the PROSTA is working ! Dr Lang takes one last stab at the antibiotics prescribing Keflex for 14 days 4 times a day. I am now in day 10 with no changes in symptoms. He states if this does not work he will have to send me for a second opinion probably in Boston.

Hi Tim,

I'm also a 50 yo male and my experience sounds almost exactly like yours.

I have seen four doctors, two of which were urologists, and none of them agree. Two think my prostrate is slightly enlarged, the other two don't. I've had several rounds of antibiotics with no effect; meds to shrink prostrate also have no effect.

Urologist #1 did Cystoscopy and said my bladder was very irritated, but he doesn't know what caused it; continued to treat for enlarged prostrate with no effect.

Urologist #2 said bladder irritation was likely caused by diet. Suggested eliminating the four Cs, caffeine, chocolate, carbonation, and citrus. If that didn't work eliminate tomatoes, bananas, and alcohol. Out of that list only alcohol seems to irritate my bladder.

Went back to my primary care doc and he prescribed Elmiron. Elmiron is used to treat interstitial cystitis (IC). Although none of the docs said I had IC, Elmiron provided significant relief. Something you might want to suggest to your doctor.

Good luck!

Firstly, you cannot spell ridiculous and secondly you cannot spell misdiagnose. These two words are correct here. Whatever you mean by your made up word intentent, I do not know. Perhaps simply intent might be the answer. Do not make fun of something you know nothing about. People are in pain. I took this at age 72. I am female and still a good speller
