can cealic disease affect the colon as well as the small intestine

Hello there,

Celiac disease affects only the small intestine. This is condition which is triggered by consumption of protein gluten. This protein can be found in bread, pizza, cookies. If you are suffering from celiac disease and you eat food which contains gluten you have immune reaction which is affecting your small intestine, causing the damage to the inner surface of small intestine. This results with inability to digest certain nutrients.

This condition can cause pain and diarrhea. After avoiding certain nutrients it can cause vitamin deficiency as well, so you need to take supplements.

Unfortunately there is no cure for this condition, but the symptoms of celiac disease can be easily managed if you are careful what you eat.
