I haven't run in nearly three weeks, doctor's orders. I've been walking plenty and swam once. I'm a bit worried about running for the first time. I'm in no pain, but things just don't feel right. Because nerves were cut, I still have some numbness and tingling near the incision and even in my upper, inner thigh. I'm not a happy camper.
Anyone with advice or firsthand experience that they'd care to share with me? Thanks in advance.

I have no advice--I just wish you a quick, painless recovery. I hope your first run goes well.
I would mix your first run with lots of walking, though.
Good luck!
Oh, and welcome aboard!!!!

i'm assuming your surgery was convention and not laproscopic?
neither are much fun :?
i'd keep walking until you had a physical feeling that upping the pace isn't going to be painful. we were told walking was great and encouraged to do so the day after the surgery. in fact, the MD put no physical restrictions on my husband at all but he didn't feel like he could do anything "normal" for weeks. it was way more involved, recovery wise, than they lead us to believe at the onset.

Thanks for the encouragement.
Note: Surgery was not laproscopic, but now I wish I'd researched that more.

I had my right done 20 years ago and my left done in june of last year. (I dropped it doing Gulf Coast half IM.)
My doc only restriction was to stay out of the pool. I was biking in less than a week and running in about 5 days. Slowly, but still out running.
My only problem was swimming. I would not stay out of the water and my incision kept popping open. He sutured it, stripped it, then gave up and stapled it. He told me if the staples don't hold he's gonna cut my arms off so I would stay out of the water. They held and now I have a nasty scar that is slowly going away.
Bototm line is the hernis shouldn't really be a problem. I tdoes pull and hurt a little, but you are in no danger of opening it back up. the biking was a little harder tyhan the running because I had a large lump. (The doc said the mesh he put in would slowly shrink down, and it has.) running felt odd for the first few times, but you really should have no problems after a few days.

I actually went for a walk this evening and broke into a slow jog that wasn't any faster than my walk, but it actually felt okay. So I'm encouraged. I'll just be patient and ease into more jogging, then finally running.
