Hello everyone! I have got crohn's disease but I feel that the condition is under control with medication, and I lead a relatively happy and normal life, in which crohn's disease doesn't play much of a role. I'd love to donate blood because I want to help others, but I am not sure if I am entitled with the crohn's disease?

Prior to diagnosis, I'd given up giving blood, as I wasn't sure what I was suffering with, and didn't want to risk passing anything on.

After diagnosis, I went to my local Blood Transfusion Service centre. They told me I shouldn't donate.
It wasn't because of any worries about the medication I was on, or the risk of passing on disease.
But I was advised that donating blood would vastly increase the chances of triggering a flare-up of the disease.
Also, as a feature of Crohns can be iron and vitamin deficiency, even when under control, they reckoned I was better off keeping the blood for myself, and keeping myself well.

I know there's conflicting advice on this on the internet. But I'd rather play safe. Not only for myself, but also for whoever might recieve the blood.
