Hello,
I had my right kidney removed April of 2011. I had two wonderful children (before I knew I had kidney problems) from a previous relationship and now my current boyfriend & I want to have a baby. Is this possible? Is it a good idea? How long should I wait before we start trying? My boyfriend dosen't have any children of his own & even tho he loves my children as if they're his own, I know it's not the same. I love this man & I want to give him at least one child, but if I can't be here to raise ALL my children I don't want to risk it. What is the best thing to do? Any suggestions???

Hi Kym,
Why was the right kidney removed? What is the condition of the left kidney? If it is "normal and healthy" then there should be no restrictions on your pregnancy. You will have to be monitored, especially your blood pressure. If it rises, which sometimes happens during pregnancy, it can damage the kidney.
Check with your doctor for the best advice.
Good luck.

Hello,
Hello. I have been trying to find the same kind of answers. My story is I had my right kidney removed along with a benign tumor that was very large in May of 2012. I am now 9 weeks pregnant and freaking out. The Dr. had originally told me I really shouldn't have more children since I already have 2. I am so worried that my pregnancy is so recent and I worry about my health since I have not completely recuperated from surgery. It has been a hard 6 months and now with this I am afraid it will be to much on my body. I have had several UTI's since surgery and feel like this will be to much for my body. My Doctors say that everything should go well but my pregnancy is considered high risk. They even asked me to consider abortion but that scares me as well. I am very scared of what could happen and would love some insight...
Thanks

Hi Corrina,
Your doctors tell you that "everything should go well" and also asked you to have an abortion? No wonder you're scared and confused
Pregnancy can be hard on the body. You will need to be monitored during pregnancy. High blood pressure, which can happen during pregnancy, can damage kidneys.
In what way are you still recuperating?
You might consider another opinion.
Hope it helps.
