I’m worried because I keep experiencing some strange changes in my body and behaviour. It all started about a month ago when I couldn’t pronounce some everyday words right. I thought I was exhausted, but this thing repeated several times. I also noticed that I couldn’t concentrate - when carrying something I dropped things, when going somewhere I forgot where and why... At work I can’t concentrate, focus or talk right and my classes turn into disaster (I’m a teacher). My students noticed these changes and started to take advantage of them. I’m 43 and healthy, I do not take drugs, apart from vitamin C and Crestor (for about six years), both suggested by my doctor because I have high LDL cholesterol level. What to do?

I do not want to scare you but it is quite possible that after very long period of taking Crestor you started suffering from serious side effects this medication can cause. Statins (used in cholesterol therapy often) are notorious for this kind of side effects. Certain reports and researches bring stories about people who were on statins for several years and who started to experience things similar to the difficulties you have. Statins can seriously endanger your muscles and nerves and I suppose this is what happened to you. Neuromuscular damage after six years of usage is certainly big. Our body produces cholesterol for some reason and if we take too much of the cholesterol - killing drugs we destroy the cholesterol and damage our muscles and nerves. This is why muscle pain and inability to move, speak or perform some usual activities are very often found in cases of statin therapy. I suggest you check with your doctor - perhaps the nature of your problems lies somewhere else. If I’m right he’ll probably try to reduce your daily Crestor dose. Since these are very serious symptoms I urge you to consult your doctor as soon as possible.

Hey guys I'm no expert on this and don't know what could be causing these problems although I read a useful book about how the brain works and although it sounds like medical problems you are describing not the functioning of the brain itself I highly recommend this book to most people. It's a national bestseller in the US call "The brain that can change itself", I think reading it might prove insightful and give you hope but since its not exactly a medical book won't give you an answer. I urge both of you to keep asking around, getting opinions from a neurologist, a psychologist and a primary care physician to have different viewpoints and specialties look at the problem, to the guest saying he had similar problems he mentioned withdrawal and if you are under the effects of withdrawal from a substance these side effects are common I believe. To me it sounds like a possible hormone imbalance problem (menopause in women causes hormonal imbalances that make many of these symptoms occur) or some type of chemical imbalance interfering with normal cognitive function.
